Amazon.com Books: Rhode Island guide
Where and how to fly fish within two or three hours of downtown Boston. Terry Tessein, a veteran of a lifetime of fishing the New England coastline, shares those years of experience in the first detailed guidebook to the multitude of fly fishing possibilities within easy reach of downtown Boston. From the shores of Rhode Island to the coastline of southern Maine, Tessein will guide the reader on where to go, when to go to find particular species, and what flies and tactics to use at each venue. Fly Fishing Boston covers both well known areas like the Joppa Flats of Newburyport, as well as the relatively unknown and underfished areas along this stretch. In addition, Tessein explains such important coastal fishing information as tides and how they affect the movement of fish. Finally, Fly Fishing Boston is detailed enough to provide even regional fly patterns unique to specific zones. It will be a book to both read in the off-season and to pack in the tackle bag when heading out for a day of fishing. 30 black and white photographs, 6 maps, index.

Through his columns in the "Providence Journal" and his books, including the recently published companion volume to this one, "More Walks and Rambles in Rhode Island," Ken has educated Rhode Islanders to the joys of this gentle sport.
This second edition has been thoroughly updated by the author - almost half the walks have been substantially revised. Each of the 40 walks includes a map, hiking times and distances, an overview of the special features of the walk and its level of difficulty, directions on getting to the trailhead, and a two - to three-page description. There is also tremendous diversity to these 40 outings: one can choose from beach walks, woods walks, wetlands walks, and even island walks. Many of them, moreover, are suitable for families with children.
Written by native New Englanders, "The Rhode Island Guide" is full of information about the state's most well-known spots, such as the Newport mansions and South Coast beaches, as well as the many lesser-known destinations where one can find Native American trails, mysterious stone cairns, and a bed and breakfast tucked away inside an island lighthouse. For Love and Liberty: The Untold Civil War Story of Major Sullivan Ballou and His Famous Love Letter
If you were among the millions who fell in love with Ken Burns's documentary The Civil War back in 1990, today there's probably only one moment you remember from it: "The Letter." Read as the music soared at the end of the first episode, the letter from unsung Rhode Island soldier Sullivan Ballou to his wife on the eve of battle—and likely death—brought a nation of viewers to tears for its eloquence and passion. This is Ballou's story. At the age of thirty-four, less than ten years after meeting the love of his life, Sarah Shumway, Ballou left his law practice and budding political career, his wife and two young sons, and took a commission as a major in the Union Army. He served in the army for almost two months but was struck down at the First Battle of Manassas-Bull Run. Civil War enthusiasts will devour the detailed depiction of the battle in which Ballou participated, and romantics will be absorbed in Sarah and Sullivan's love story. For Love and Liberty brings the war to life with startling detail, depicting not only the heroism of its soldiers, but also the courage of the families they left behind. This digital document is a journal article from Transportation Research Part A, published by Elsevier in 2006. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.Description: Like many tourist destinations, Newport, Rhode Island relies upon high season tourist volumes for its economic health. Most visitors arrive by car, concentrated during certain hours on summer weekends, severely congesting the town's major arteries and forcing many visitors to spend considerable time in their car. A transportation planning strategy which reduced congestion would enhance the quality of the visiting experience, increase the time visitors are able to spend in shops and at attractions, and draw additional visitors. However, identifying effective solutions requires understanding factors that affect tourists' transit choices. We develop a conceptual model of Newport visitors' parking and transit choices, expanding traditional transit choice models to include features such as scenery we expect to influence tourists. Using a stated preference survey of visitors, we find scenery, transit mode options and congestion are the major drivers of tourists' parking choices. We also develop welfare estimates to enable analysis of proposed transportation plans. Author: C.M. Anderson, C. Das, T.J.
