The author of the "Herbal Body Book" presents a holistic approach to caring for feet, introducing alternative and natural treatments for good foot health. Line illustrations. 2-color text.Author: Stephanie Tourles Paperback: 192 pages Company: Storey Publishing, LLC (1998-01-08) ISBN: 1580170544 List Price: $16.95 Amazon Price: $6.76 Used Price: $1.61 Over the past 15 years, the use of custom-prescribed foot orthoses has undergone a meteoric rise in popularity. Because of their ability to improve the functional alignment between the foot, knee, hip, and pelvis, many practitioners have realized that they can effectively treat a wide variety of disorders with custom foot orthoses. Until now there has been a limited amount of published information explaining the details of orthotic design and fabrication. As a result, the interested clinician has been forced to rely on the conflicting and often misleading information supplied by competing orthotic laboratories. The purpose of this text is to clarify the role of the orthotic by relating the science of pedal biomechanics to the objective involved in orthotic design. The early chapters review the cardinal planes of motions, locations of the individual articular axes, the interactions of opposing forces acting upon the foot and the mechanical efficiency of the different muscles as determined by their spatial relationships with these axes. This is followed with a detailed review of both ideal and faulty foot function as related to a myriad of structural and functional anomalies. The final chapters review essentials of the biomechanical examination, casting techniques, orthotic fabrication and a flowchart for clinical problem-solving.

You have had a hard day at the office and now that you are home you can take your shoes off and relax. When you do take your shoes off though, you get a bad smell. The nasty odor that you are getting is from your feet, your still sock encased feet. This is a case of smelly feet. Smelly feet are unfortunately a part of our lives. As we spend almost our entire day wearing shoes and socks our feet don’t get a chance to air out and breathe. This lack of being able to breathe means that our feet become damp and bacteria starts to grow in this condition. The bacteria that causes our smelly feet produces an acid called Isovaleric acid. It is this acid which is responsible for the bad odor. The bacteria acts on the sock enclose feet which have become sweaty. The sweat in turn acts as an agent for the bacteria to breed and the accumulation of Isovaleric acidic bacteria is why we get smelly feet. There are also other reasons why we can get smelly feet besides wearing socks and shoes. The reasons are sweaty feet or hyperhidrosis, lots of stress due to our hectic lives, various types of drugs and hormonal changes in our bodies. Any of these reasons or even all of them will produce the bacteria acid which creates smelly feet. Luckily we have the means of controlling this problem and altogether eliminating smelly feet from our lives. The control measures are: make sure that your feet are clean by bathing them in lukewarm water with a mild soap and dry the feet thoroughly, especially between the toes. Change your socks at least once a day. Dry your feet and dust some powder on them. Remember to wipe between your toes to remove the excess moisture, so that the powder doesn’t build up between the toes. Also wearing thick, soft socks will help to absorb the sweat. Socks made from natural fibers like wool, cotton and other materials that are absorbent have the ability to let the feet breathe better. You should try to avoid wearing nylon socks or plastic shoes as these can lead the build up of bacteria and the result is smelly feet. Instead you might want to try shoes that are made of leather, canvas, mesh or other types of materials that will let your feet breathe. One of the best things that you can do to prevent smelly feet is to avoid wearing the same pair of shoes two days in a row. When the shoes become damp with sweat they need time to dry out. To help with this drying out process you can also remove the innersoles of the shoes. While smelly feet are an embarrassing problem they are treatable and the measures can be carried out by you every day without any difficulties. -- Krishan Bakhru is the editor of Natural Home Remedies , Natural Home Remedies for Heartburn and Acid Reflux and Anxiety and Panic Attack Treatment Information Source: http://www.articletrader.com Mon, 21 Dec 2009 23:30:00 -0600
Many people nowadays often complain about their feet such as pain and toe nail fungus, but only very small part of them can realize that the things that affect their feet can also affect the rest of their body. So the problems on feet can not be neglected because they partly can determine whether you are healthy or not.
Many people suffer from fungus on their feet, and even though they find them annoying and realize that it is not healthy yet they still try to hide this simply by wearing shoes. It is not a good idea because covering can help nothing.
You can also try some kind of shoe or sandal and keep your feet off the ground. This can help to prevent something like athlete's foot. Most of the foot disease are not dangerous, but if left untreated, they will spread and cause more discomfort particularly on skin.
Else, make sure that your feet can breathe very well. The close, hot and sweaty condition is favorable to the growth of bacteria. The medicine for these diseases can be found at the local grocery, or you can see the doctor and get some medical attention.
As a matter of fact, most acupuncture points of the whole body are on the feet, and feet fatigue or pain is likely the signal of being unhealthy. Different people have different feet and many times the shoes they are wearing are not very suitable for themselves. Therefore, if the shoes do not fit you, you may suffer from pain on back or neck. Make sure the shoes can provide enough support to your ankles especially for daily walkers.
In a word, shoes not only can help enhance yourself but also have very close relationship with your health.

Stinky feet are a problem that many of us have to face daily. In spite of all of the precautions that we take in our lives we still end up with stinky feet. So what causes stinky feet and what can we do to get rid of this smelly problem? The first thing that you need to do is to understand what causes stinky feet. As our feet have to take the entire brunt of all of our daily activities like walking or running they need to stay soft and supple. The sweat glands on the feet provide this moisture by producing more sweat than is needed elsewhere on the body. This amount of sweat is very necessary, without any sweat on the feet they would dry out very rapidly. At this point you are probably thinking that having no sweaty feet is a good idea. However when you understand that without some sweat on our feet they become dry and cracked, and walking itself is extremely painful then you may have no problems with slightly sweaty feet. The problem of stinky feet comes when the sweat on our feet becomes excessive because the “water” has no place to evaporate from. The sweat in our socks and shoes becomes a home and breeding ground for bacteria. These bacteria produce an acid called Isovaleric acid. It is this acidic bacteria that produces stinky feet. There are some things that we can do to stop stinky feet. These are all simple methods that should work. Should you feel that these measures aren’t working at stopping stinky feet then you will need to consult a foot doctor. The preventative measures include giving your feet a thorough cleansing. Use a mild soap and get rid of all of the day’s dirt especially from between your toes. Afterwards dry the feet completely, don’t forget the toe areas. You can then rub some talcum powder into your feet. The talcum powder will absorb the excess moisture. Remember the excess moisture is what can cause stinky feet. Any shoes that you intend to wear must let your feet breathe. The best types of shoes for this business are leather shoes and open toed shoes. However if you do need to wear covered shoes then try to wear cotton or wool socks as these will absorb the moisture from your feet so that you won’t get stinky feet. Any time that you can sit down and remove your shoes to let them stretch and breathe is one less reason for stinky feet. So basically we get stinky feet because our feet simply can’t breathe and the bacteria gets a chance to become at home in our socks and create the acid that is stinky feet. So remember to let your feet breathe properly. -- Krishan Bakhru is the editor of Natural Home Remedies , Natural Home Remedies for Heartburn and Acid Reflux and Anxiety and Panic Attack Treatment Information Source: http://www.articletrader.com Wed, 08 Nov 2006 00:00:00 -0600
As we lead very high paced lives we are constantly on our feet. The demands made from our careers mean that not only do we need to look well dressed but that we may have to stand, walk or even run quite a lot. All of this activity coupled with the fact that our feet are in shoes, cause sweaty feet.
Now while you might think that sweaty feet are a trait of having to wear shoes, this is not completely the case. As our feet have a number of things to do in a day, they need to stay soft, supple and this is the reason why our feet become sweaty. Nature has given us the ability to produce more sweat on our feet so that they can flex, squash and squeeze our feet to accommodate the things that we need to do in our day to day lives. Without this ability to produce large amounts of sweat the skin on our feet would become very dry and cracked extremely quickly. Walking would be a form of torture. There are times when the sweat on our feet can be excessive. The excess sweat mingles with the damp environment in our socks and shoes to produce a nasty odor. People object to sweaty feet because they think it is the sweat that is the reason for the smell. The main reason for your feet smelling is that your feet are damp from wearing socks that don’t allow the excess sweat to dry off. So to get rid of the smell you need to tackle the problem on two fronts. You need to reduce the amount of sweat that your foot produces while you are wearing shoes and stop the sweaty smell. As you do need to have some sweat on your feet you should choose shoes that fit you properly. Tight shoes cause you feet to clamp together and the pressure makes your feet sweat more in order that your feet can stay cool to try and breathe Also standing on your feet for long periods of time will encourage your body to produce more sweat so that your feet can withstand the pressure that is being placed on them. This standing around will cause sweaty feet. While in many cases you simply can’t sit down for long periods, there are always the times when you can sit and let the pressure be relieved from your feet. To avoid sweaty feet the best thing that you can do is to keep your whole body temperature cool. Even more importantly the skin of your feet need a chance to dry and breathe. You can accomplish the breathing part by going barefoot as often as you can. Also wearing open toed sandals, leather shoes and socks made of cotton or wool will help to get rid of sweaty feet. All of these measures can help to get rid of sweaty feet without hurting our feet. -- Krishan Bakhru is the editor of Natural Home Remedies , Natural Home Remedies for Heartburn and Acid Reflux and Anxiety and Panic Attack Treatment Information Source: http://www.articletrader.com Sun, 07 Dec 2008 12:47:31 -0600
Holiday shopping is not easy on the feet. Not only are you trekking from store to store, but if you have a long list of gifts to buy. What you had hoped would take hours ends up taking days. At the end of the day, you bring home a few unwanted gifts of your own: foot pain and blisters.
The average person takes about 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day, especially when on the hunt for that perfect gift. To help you stay on your feet, here are five holiday fixes: 1. Massage your feet. This will help release tension, increase circulation and rejuvenate the skin. 2. Soothe your soles. Soak your feet for at least five minutes in a container filled with warm water. Pat dry and apply lotion to hydrate your feet. 3. Elevate legs. Lift your legs above your heart while lying down to help reduce swelling. 4. Rotate ankles. Cup the foot under the back portion of the heel to brace the foot and leg; turn slowly at the ankle five times. This loosens the ankle joint and relaxes your feet. 5. Point your toes. While standing, do toe raises, toe points and toe curls for five seconds; repeat 10 times. This alleviates toe cramps and strengthens calf muscles. Eczema is a skin condition that causes your skin to become very dry, irritated, and inflamed. It is very uncomfortable and can cause annoyance in your life. The dry skin condition can appear anywhere on your body, and there are different types of eczema. One place where it can occur often and be hard to manage is on your feet. There are many reasons that it appears on your feet such as being on your feet all day at work or wearing shoes made from material that may trigger a flare up. Here is some information about causes, symptoms, treatment, and shoe solutions for eczema on feet.
There are different factors that can cause a flare up on your feet. The most common cause is from the shoes you wear. A lot of shoes are made with dyes, different materials, and closed toe. It can be hard for your feet to breathe when you are wearing closed toe shoes all day or while you are working out for example. Leather shoes and sneaks are triggers for foot eczema. If there is not a lot of moisture in the air that can also dry out your feet which can make them dry and crack. The winter is a common season for flare ups to occur on the feet. How can you tell the difference between dry feet or eczema? There are characteristic symptoms of feet eczema that will help you determine if you have the condition. Your skin will become very dry and itchy. It is usually very red and may have puss filled bumps on it. Your feet can become swollen or inflamed. It will often appear on the soles of your feet. If the skin is not cracked it may look somewhat glazed over. Treating eczema on your feet can be difficult because you have to wear shoes throughout the day. When a flare up occurs it is best to keep your feet moisturized with eczema oil and lotions. The lotion should be chemical free and not heavily scented. You can also rotate your shoes because it is not good to wear the same pair every day. If you are wearing closed toe shoes wear cotton socks because your feet will be able to breathe in the material. It is also helpful to find shoes that are breathable. If the symptoms of your flare up go away, keep treating the area to prevent future flare ups. When possible, wear open toe shoes or something that your feet can breathe in. When you do have to wear closed toe ones, wear cotton socks with them. Leather shoes are triggers for eczema, so weather other materials. A lot of shoes are made from leather so buy a few pairs to rotate throughout the week. Sandals are great because your feet will not rub against the material and cause irritation. -- Melanie Nader is the founder of the Homestead Company which makes premium quality natural skin care products including eczema oil and diaper ointment made with the finest 100% natural ingredients. So you have sore feet. There are some easy ways to take care of this right in the privacy of your own home. Here are the most basic and easiest methods.
The simple act of washing your feet well with warm water and drying them carefully afterward will soothe them. Clean your feet every day to avoid any problems. Sometimes an elderly or obese person has trouble reaching their feet, so using a scrubbie on a long handle will work well. Elevate your feet by putting them up on a pillow or two. They should be raised above waist level and left there until any swelling comes down. This will help take the soreness out. Soaking the feet in a container that is large enough to fit your foot comfortably. The water needs to be warm and some essential oils added or bath salts. Using hot water will not kill bacteria but it may cause a burn so the water should be warm and comfortable. Sore feet can be caused from trimming the nails incorrectly. Only cut the nail straight across. Cutting the edges of the nail may cause it to grow into the skin eventually causing the nail to cut the skin. This could lead to complications like an infection. Massaging your feet is always a good idea as it will not only soothe your sore feet, but make them much healthier. Home remedies for sore feet can be as simple as using a creamy, soothing ointment enriched with collagen. The best choice would be one that is made of natural oils like menthol, camphor and peppermint. This is a very refreshing formula and easy to use at home. Another home remedy may sound a little odd but does seem to help. After washing your feet you are going to find a pair of comfortable cotton socks you can wear to bed for the night. Before putting the socks on, rub your feet with a hunk of solid shortening. Apply this generously making sure to cover every inch of your foot. In the morning when you remove the socks your feet will be much softer. You can do this when needed. If you can't stand using shortening, try using Vaseline. -- Stanley Home Products has been in business since 1931, and offers high quality home and personal care products to keep your home and your body clean. The human foot is really an amazing thing. Did you know it has more than a hundred tendons, muscles, twenty-six bones and oh yes, ligaments too. So why don't we all spend more time taking care of our feet?
So is caring for sore feet a big deal? Yes, actually it is. In fact, many experts do suggest that when you visit your health care professional, you need to remove your socks so they can check your feet along with the rest of you. A little known fact is that when your have pain in your feet, this can set off pain in other places of your body like your back. The pain can travel into your legs and on up to your hips. Pain in your feet can even be a sign of a disease. Proper care of your sore feet not only means you will be more comfortable, but you will prevent more serious problems down the road. Older individuals will over time suffer from aching and burning feet just because of their advancing years. Younger individuals who spend their day on their feet need to take good care of them. Caring for sore feet is a pretty simple process but many people neglect their foot care needs. Some of this is due to not understanding the necessity to take proper care of their feet and some of this is probably because of the fast paced, hectic lives most people lead today. There are a lot of articles written and dedicated to the care of feet and most of the ideas are similar. All of them suggest four basic but important things to do for your feet. Here are the four suggestions for proper foot care. One is of course to keep your feet very clean. When you wash your feet use warm water and something that will serve to scrub them gently like a wash cloth. When you dry your feet be sure to dry in between each toe carefully. If you don't you are subject to getting a very unpleasant condition called 'athlete's foot'. The second is to elevate your feet letting the blood flow away from your feet and ankles to relieve any stress caused from excessive standing and walking during the day. The third is to soak your feet in a warm foot bath tub with baths salts added. They say Epson Salts will actually dry out your skin so bath salts or oils might be better. And finally, after all this is done, you should use a non-greasy spray that is made of natural ingredients. This should be done periodically during the day. The best product to use is one that is a blend of peppermint oil, menthol oil and camphor oil that is quick to dry. -- Stanley Home Products has been in business since 1931, and offers high quality home and personal care products to keep your home and your body clean.
