During the considerable periods of time trout spend feeding exclusively on underwater food forms, nymph fishing can be the most productive, if not the only way to catch fish. But understanding what occurs below the water's surface can be a challenge for even the most experienced angler. In Nymph-Fishing Rivers and Streams, aquatic entomologist and long-time fly fisherman Rick Hafele shares the information necessary to successfully decipher the mysteries of trout life. He starts by explaining their feeding patterns--where trout feed, when they feed, and what's available for them to eat. Sections on tackle and pattern selection help anglers sort through equipment and imitations to find the best outfit for their needs. The DVD complements the photos in the book that show various methods for nymph fishing. Also included is an angler's field guide to nymphs with details on their habitat, importance to trout, and the most effective patterns and fishing tactics to imitate them. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Rick Hafele has been studying aquatic insects and freshwater biology professionally for nearly thirty years. His other books include Complete Book of Western Hatches (0-9366-0812-9) and Anglers Guide to Aquatic Insects and Their Imitations (1-5556-6161-0). One of the best and most dependable traps on the market. You can't buy a better trap than one made of glass. It blends with the water and doesn't spook the minnows you're after. This trap is 13.25" long, 7.5" in diameter and has a circumference of 24". Normally the trap is placed in shallow water so that you can readily see if minnows have entered the trap. That means you don't have to constantly pull it up to check it. Despite being made of glass these traps are quite rugged. Most retailers have
shied away from selling these traps due the risk of breakage during shipment. However, if that were the case the design would not have lasted the test of time and wouldn't even be available. Many of the old time glass traps are still out there and have lasted well over 50 years. The trap will be shipped insured so there is no risk of monetary loss.Misc.: Made of Glass, Won't Spook Minnows, You Can See if Minnows are in the Trap Company: Stream & Lake List Price: Amazon Price: $54.95

This book focuses on Lake Norman North Carolina but all of its information is useful to any fresh water fisherman. The author is considered a Sonar expert and this book is full of Sonar image photo interpretations to help those fishermen who have not developed the skill of using Sonar fish finders to improve their catch rate. The tips presented on catching the various species of fish resident to Lake Norman are useful for these species wherever they reside. The five Great Lakes, Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario with their connecting waters are the world?s largest freshwater system; about 20 per cent of all the fresh surface water on this planet. Each lake differs from the other and yet these connected lakes are one flowing system connected to the Atlantic through the St. Lawrence River. Unique ecosystems evolved in these lakes since the last Ice Age but in the last 200 years commercial fishing and the Lamprey Eel wiped out larger fish. Shipping on the Great Lakes from all parts of the world has brought exotic species that threaten to topple food pyramids. Pollution carried through the air and water damages life in and around these lakes. Through knowledge, and the democratic process, The Dynamic Great Lakes encourages us to appreciate and understand these lakes and to get involved in finding answers to their problems.Author: Barbara Spring Paperback: 113 pages ISBN13: 9781588517319, Condition: USED - VERY GOOD, Notes:, Click here to view our Condition Guide and Shipping Prices Company: Independence Books (2002-01-11) ISBN: 1588517314 List Price: $19.95 Amazon Price: $14.10 Used Price: $9.90

This straightforward fishing guide was written for the average fisherman. The focus is on tactics and a handful of secrets that keep fishing simple and enjoyable. These secrets are really a set of easy and logical processes that answer three basic questions: Where should I fish? What do I fish with? When do I fish? The key is in the relationship between trout and their changing ecology, and understanding how complex behaviour is really a set of simple and predictable patterns. Ed looks at the basic physiology and instincts of fish and ends up with proven methods for catching fish. This well-written guide glows with an interesting mix of science, practical knowledge, and light humour. The on the water examples bring the methods to life. No other book so vividly related behavioural science to angling tactics.Author: Ed Rychkun Paperback: 119 pages Company: Hancock House Publishing (1994-06) ISBN: 0888393385 List Price: $9.95 Amazon Price: $64.57 Used Price: $19.84 |

Fishing began about 40,000 years ago. Traditional fishing is a term used to describe small scale commercial or subsistence fishing practices, using traditional techniques such as rod and tackle, arrows and harpoons, throw nets and drag nets, etc. A recreational and sport fishing describe fishing for pleasure or competition. What a wonderful day it is just to spend it fishing. No doubt about it, that's the way to relax. I love the sport of fishing more than anything else in my life, even my spouse; and to me, the most wonderful form of fishing is bass fishing.
Lots of action can be had while bass fishing and at the same time have a very calming effect on the soul. You need to be aware at all times, but you need to sit quietly for long periods of time while waiting for the fish to take notice. There are some things that defy explanation, like how some folks take to bass fishing right away and love it, and others just can't stomach it. Simply pro or con type of feeling. As you are getting your feet wet, learning about bass fishing; you will soon find out that there is a lot more to bass fishing than meets the eye. Doesn't matter what you say, there is no feeling like the way you feel when you have a largemouth grabbing the hook and giving you the fishing experience of your life. Some folks can be identified by their likes and dislikes in the world of bass fishing; some like to fish for smallmouth, some like to fish for largemouth, and there a many that will go for striped bass. You don't have to settle on just one, but most folks have a preference in what they catch. Surf casting or fly fishing or stream fishing or fishing from a boat; some of the options you have as a bass fisherman when you take up bass fishing and look into just how many sides to the sport there are. Other than boat fishing, not many methods of bass fishing are preferred. It's hard when you are just starting out in bass fishing, to know if you would be a good fisherman from a boat; but the best way to find out would be to get hooked up with a like minded group of bass fishing people and go out fishing with them. Learn from and with others is one of the smartest things you can do when you are breaking into bass fishing, and this can be done by starting out with a bass fishing party who can take you under their wing and get you started. Being new at bass fishing can be scary for some, but if you are traveling with a group of bass fishermen, you will find out all you need to know about the sport in record time. -- Chris Douglas publishes tips on subjects such as Bass Fishing Techniques, and Bass Fishing Tips. What a wonderful time is had by all just relaxing and fishing. Can't think of anything better.
Sometimes there are things in life that you just can't figure out; like the ups and downs associated with bass fishing when folks are first introduced to it...some think it's the cat's meow and others would just die if forced to partake of it. It's an all or nothing kind of thing. Such a sport is bass fishing; so many faces to it that you don't see right away when you first start out. When you battle wits with a largemouth bass fighting like a demon on your line, you cannot describe the fantastic feeling that wells up inside you. Now that we have gotten that out of the way; you will want to put some thought into what segment of bass fishing that you would like to be involved with: fishing for largemouth, smallmouth, or striped bass. For whatever reason, folks who love bass fishing seem to prefer a certain kind of fish over another, but you don't need to fish one kind only. Not only do you have the different types of bass to choose from, but also the different types of bass fishing like fly fishing over stream fishing. The number of bass fishermen that prefer boat fishing to all the other kinds, far outweigh those that don't. Bass fishing people who are serious about it prefer fishing from a boat, and if you would like to try your hand at it, then join a bass fishing party and see how you like it. Lose your inhibitions about bass fishing when you are a newbie at it, but getting in with a bass fishing party crowd and let them teach you the ins and outs of the sport. Learn from and with others is one of the smartest things you can do when you are breaking into bass fishing, and this can be done by starting out with a bass fishing party who can take you under their wing and get you started. -- Chris Douglas publishes helpful tips on subjects such as Fishing Game, and Fishing Knots. What is a fishing reel? As per the definition, the fishing reel is a devise used for deployment and retrieval of fishing line with a spool mounted on the axle.
Fishing reel are used for recreational sport like angling, which is a method of fishing by means of hook which is attached by a fishing line to a fishing rod. These fishing rods are fitted with fishing reels; these fishing reels store, retrieve and pay out the line. There are some specialized fishing reels that are mounted on the fishing boats gunwales or transoms. There are different types of fishing reels 1.Centrepin reel: this type of reel is mainly used for fly fishing. The fly reel requires pulling the stripping line with one hand and casting the fishing rod with the other hand. Fly reels are normally manual, single-action designs. 2.Bait casting reel: these reels are referred as ‘conventional reels' in the US and ‘multiplier reels' in Europe, because of their feared line retrieve, that is one turn on the handle results in multiple turns of the spool. In a bait casting reel one has to move the rod backward and then snap it forward. The thumb is used to stop the lure at the desired location. 3.Spinning (Fixed spool) reel: The most interesting thing about this kind of fishing reel is that once the fish is caught in the bait it prevents the crank handle from rotating when the fish is pulling line from the spool. You can retrieve the fishing line easily in the spool along with the fish. The Shimano is a very well known company that manufactures the Fishing reels and has been around for more than 80 years. The Shimano fishing reels are most popular among the fishermen and outdoor professionals who need a fishing gear to succeed. The Shimano Company was founded by Shozaburo Shimano and at present has various types of products used for fishing. The Shimano produces five major types of fishing reels. The Conventional Shimano fishing reels are ideal for a wide variety of fish, from sail fish to huge tuna fish of 120 plus pounds. Besides this they have the baitcaster reel good for keeping a low profile for catching the undersea prey. -- For more insights and further information about Shimano fishing advice visit our site http://www.fishermansoutfitter.com/. During the holidays, we in the UK can be seen doing only three things: playing football, fishing or “taking care” of anything that goes beyond our definition of "recreation". You see, our love for football runs in our English bloods. And if there's another sport that we are meant to be in love with aside from football, that sport would be fishing. You don't believe the fishing part? Come on, try to look around you (but don't take this literally). Our territory is blessed with thousands of pristine canals and rivers where we go boating with our families and friends during holidays. And since boating alone would be really boring for a holiday activity, we fish too. Besides, fishing is your next best activity option after renting a not-so-cheap boat. And also, if it isn't as "nationalistic" to us as football, why would this craze called fishing lure collecting exist? There are actually antique fishing lures and a whole bunch books dedicated to it like Captain John's Fishing Tackle Price Guide by John A. Kolbeck, Classic Fishing Lures and Tackle by Eric Lowell Sorenson and Old Fishing Lures & Tackle: Identification & Value Guide by Carl F. Luckey. Also, like football, fishing can be done all year round. There is an activity called ice fishing and there are ice fishing lures specifically made for it. The appeal of ice fishing comes with the fact that it's quite, in commonsense terms, unconventional. During ice fishing you'll literally be dealing with a frozen lake and limiting yourself in a tiny gap in the ice to catch fish. But that's the beauty of this activity. It will teach you how to be patient and keen and thus, improve your general fishing skills. Fishing on the ice requires a lot of patience. Plus, if you really want to take ice fishing seriously, you need to use ice fishing lures and use them good -- http://www.fishinglure.co.uk/ Fishing on the ice requires a lot of patience. Finding discount fly fishing gear can save you a great deal of money. Being a fly fisher I know that fly fishing equipment can be pretty expensive depending on what you’re looking for and where you shop. However there are some places online that offer great discounts at bargain prices on name brand fly fishing equipment. Some of these companies are well known and have been selling fly fishing gear and other outdoor gear for years.
So why do some of these companies offer discounts on fly fishing gear? There is a couple of answers to this question. Sometimes it’s to reduce built up inventory of a particular model or brand name, to make room for next years new fishing gear. Or, they will offer a beginning of the season or end of the season sale on fly fishing equipment. There are many sites online that offer great discounts on fly line, waders, fishing vests, fly rod and reels, float tubes and other fly fishing accessories. There are online outlet stores that just specialize in liquidating all kinds of fishing gear and other brand name outdoor gear. They are constantly purchasing name brand overstock and closeout fishing gear and discounting it anywhere from 30% to 50%. This is where the best discounts on fly fishing gear are usually found. The only draw back with online outlet companies is that their inventory changes regularly. You can find some excellent discounts on name brand gear like Simm, Sage, Cortland, Patagonia, Redington, Scientific Angler, Orvis and many other well known name brand fly fishing equipment manufacturers. In Summary: Before you purchase any new fly fishing equipment take some time to shop online and look for those special discounts which will save you a lot of money in the long run. -- For more information on where to find great deals visit discount fly fishing gear. You will also find information on other fly fishing gear sales. Source: http://www.articletrader.com Sun, 04 May 2008 00:00:00 -0500
Have you ever been fishing? Many people would answer yes to this. In America alone, according to the American Sportfishing Association, there are nearly 40,000,000 anglers. But; have you ever tried Fly Fishing? Well, If you enjoy fishing of any kind I strongly suggest you try it. But, and this is very important. Learn How To Fly Fish Properly. If you go out with your new fly fishing gear, tie on your fly, cast, and hope, it's likely that you'll catch nothing, and then you'll become disillusioned.
There are many things to learn first: Rod selection, line selection, leader and tippet selection, casting techniques. I could go on and on. But what I'm saying is, get the basics right first. Fly Fishing is learning to imitate nature as you fool the fish into taking your carefully selected fly. Then feeling the exhilaration as you maybe hook a Smallmouth Bass and skilfully reel it in as it jumps and fights for all it's worth on the surface, trying to throw the hook. Or perhaps a big trout that threatens to break your line. O.k. so you can get the same thrill from bait fishing, and once you've hooked a fish, the way you reel it in is much the same. But it's the skill of catching the fish which makes Fly Fishing so exhilarating. So which is best, Bait Fishing or Fly Fishing? The answer is that neither one is better, or worse than the other. They're just different. There is more to learn for successful Fly Fishing, it's true, and some people just don't want to learn about hatches, fly patterns etc. The skill of Fly Fishing is to make the fish see the fly and believe it's a real insect and not a threat, or something to ignore. In my opinion, when you catch a fish this way, the feeling you get is 100 times that, of putting live bait in the water and waiting for the fish to bite. Most novice anglers start with bait fishing. And it's the best way to introduce children to fishing. But for me, and every Fly Fisherman I've ever talked to, bait fishing just doesn't give the excitement of Fly Fishing. Learn how to Fly Fish properly and it's unlikely that you'll ever want to go back to bait fishing. -- William Carter is an experienced Fly Fisherman who has spent many years teaching others how to improve their fly fishing. Starting from, getting the basics right, to using little known techniques and strategies that the Pro's use, to catch those trophy fish. visit at: www.betterflyfishing.com Source: http://www.articletrader.com Mon, 01 Oct 2007 00:00:00 -0500

What could be more relaxing than a day fishing? Sure is a great way to spend a day. I can't get enough of fishing and spending time on the water; and my absolute favorite form of fishing is bass fishing.
Bass fishing is so exciting and a terrific way to relax. Keep your thinking caps on while bass fishing and also just hang loose while the fish size you up. What a sport is bass fishing; there are a lot of ins and outs connected to it when people first start fishing, they either think it's the neatest thing since sliced bread, or they just can't tolerate it at all. There's no in between; it's yes or no. When you come right down to it, there are so many areas involved in bass fishing that you may not be clued into when you are starting out. Excitement, exhilaration; words that describe how you feel when you finally have a good sized largemouth bass on the line fighting for his life. Now here's a factor to consider; what form of bass fishing interests you the most...largemouth, smallmouth, or striped bass. You don't have to settle on just one, but most folks have a preference in what they catch.
