Located in the heart of South East Asia, Thailand's bustling cities and heavenly beaches continue to attract more and more visitors every year. This progressive, fiercely independent, country provides a stark contrast to neighboring Laos. Also Buddhist, it has been under communist rule for the last 30 years and continues to offer a unique glimpse of an old South East Asia. Traveler Ian Wright begins his journey in the chaos of Thailand's capital Bangkok. Traveling north through Surin he makes his way to Chiang Mai from where here embarks on a three day trek. He then takes a boat along the Mekhong River to Lauang Prabang, the capital of Laos. He ends his journey celebrating the full moon festival in Vientiane. Along the way: Learn the popular art of Thai boxing Sample the local cuisine and haggle with the women at the Damnoen Saduak floating market Take part in a tug of war between 1 elephant and 100 men Celebrate the annual monkey festival in Lopburi Witness the legacy of American Bombing in Laos during the Vietnam war In the heart of South East Asia, modern Malaysia is a vibrant mix of different cultures - Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous people. It has some of the oldest rainforest on the planet, bordered by the beautiful beaches of southern Thailand. Traveller Justine Shapiro starts her journey in Kuala Lumpur, travels up to the jungles of the Temenggor, heads east to Kota Bharu, before flying back to Kuala Lumpur for Malaysia's biggest Hindu festival. Finally she takes the train to the island of Phuket in southern Thailand. Along the way… ¨ Visit the bursting and modern Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur ¨ Follow the procession at the Hindu festival of Tapusan ¨ Go trekking in the jungle with traditional hunters from the remote Temenggor region ¨ Watch the stylised and refined Sila art, a mix of martial art and dance ¨ Visit the Tong red light district in PhuketDVD: Color, Dolby, DVD, NTSC Company: Pilot Productions (2004-11-01) List Price: $19.95 Amazon Price: $14.97 Used Price: $10.45

Written by Liu E, an intellectual born at the end of the Qing Dynasty. By describing what Lao Can sees and hears in his travels, the author fiercely attacks the injustices he witnessed and exposed the hypocrisy of so-called "honest and upright officials." Intriguing novel, and one of the last books to be written in the "old style" of Chinese narrative.Author: Liu E Kindle Edition: 134 pages Kindle eBook Company: Disruptive Publishing, Inc. My first encounter with Thailand was so unbelievable that I desperately needed to return. I had only been sent for twelve days in order to complete a research project on Buddhist Art. Once the taste of Asia entered my mouth, I couldn't let it go. Following graduation from a small liberal art university in New York, I spent one final summer in New England before heading off on a one-way ticket to Bangkok, in search of answers to questions that I did not yet understand.I have since learned to speak Thai, which enables all doors to open. Living in and traveling across northern Thailand, and through The Golden Triangle, has quenched many of my thirsts for adventure, sex, drugs, danger and excitement. I have subsequently made trips into rural northern Laos along the Mae Kong River, up to the Chinese border. I have spent time in Cambodia, and come to some of my own conclusions about the horrific Khmer past. I have also lived on a remote island, far off the southern Thai coast in the Andaman Sea. Residing in South East Asia over the last seven years has opened my mind to better understand mysteries of the Far East, both the enticing and disturbing. I lived in the fast lane, and regularly pushed myself to the limits. Black Arts in South East Asia is a Non-Fiction story that captures the 21st century and my experiences in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Laos, Udon Thani, Cambodia, as well as on the beaches. Dare I say this story is not for my own grandmother, however it sheds a truthful torch of light into the dark worlds of prostitution, pimps, transvestites, killers, thieves, human trafficking and counter culture. Black Arts in South East Asia chronicles a true-to-life adventure that can be retraced entirely, as I have not doctored the names, places, or people I have encountered along the way. For these reasons, I am confident that my non-fiction story is as up to date, authentic, and original as anything else in its genre. I believe this book has the potential to spark a new generation of travelers looking to better understand themselves and the world they pass through.
