Amazon.com DVD: Intellectual Property
Digital Rights Summit Digital rights is a critical issue for consumers and their use of CDs, DVDs, still photographs, and written material and for content providers of all types and sizes, the big Hollywood studios, composers, artists, etc. The issue is contentious and is profoundly affecting American business in a variety of areas. An arrangement has to be made and made soon, which is fair to all -- or illegal activities will continue, and there will continue to be a huge gulf between those who create content, and those who use it. A respected Silicon Valley entrepreneur, Joe Kraus, one of the founders of Excite, held an invite-only conference to try to help all sides understand the issues and to bring people who were, on the surface, very far apart. Attending and presenting were business leaders who had been sued and even arrested, congressmen and senators, heads of the music and film industry, and top lawyers and analysts. They represented some of the strongest advocates for a variety of points of view. As you can imagine, the dialogues were passionate and provocative. This 3 hour video or DVD program captured it all and is a must-see for those concerned about the subject and/or in the points of view of any of the presenters.

Do-It-Yourself Patent Course Do-It-Yourself Patent Course(tm) is an 11-hour instructional DVD set taught by Andrew Knight, J.D., Registered Patent Agent. Andrew Knight is a graduate of MIT and Georgetown Law, a university instructor, and the inventor of 13 issued U.S. patents and 15 pending patent applications. Do-It-Yourself Patent Course(tm) covers everything you need to know to draft your own patent application, including:

* Drafting a provisional patent application for a quick filing date

* Drafting a complete nonprovisional utility patent application

* Drafting claims - the most important part of a nonprovisional application

* Creating drawings and figures

* Writing a thorough specification that will satisfy the U.S. Patent Office

* Filling out the necessary forms and paperwork

Do-It-Yourself Patent Course(tm) will also cover:

* Aspects of U.S. Patent Law that dictate how you draft a patent application

* What is and what is not patentable

* Specific examples with applications to mechanical devices, electrical devices, software, consumer and industrial products, and business methods

* Mistakes to avoid

* Tips, suggestions, and strategies for creating a valid, enforceable, and valuable patent with broad claims

Do-It-Yourself Patent Course(tm) will teach you, in an easy-to-understand, step-by-step format, how to get your invention patent pending and how to write and submit a nonprovisional patent application on your invention. Unlike a provisional patent application, the Patent Office will read and examine your nonprovisional patent application for patentability. Do-It-Yourself Patent Course(tm) breaks the process down into clear instructions, including drafting claims, drawing figures, writing a comprehensive specification, and filling out the necessary paperwork.

Some companies charge you hundreds of dollars just to file a simple provisional patent application that you can do on your own. Other companies will charge you over $1000 to file a design patent on your invention, but design patents are very weak and often worthless. Finally, a competent Registered Patent Agent or Attorney will charge you between $3,500 and $10,000 to draft and file a nonprovisional utility patent application. Do-It-Yourself Patent Course(tm) will teach you how to do this on your own for a small fraction of these costs.

Piracy: The Intellectual Property Wars from Gutenberg to Gates

Since the rise of Napster and other file-sharing services in its wake, most of us have assumed that intellectual piracy is a product of the digital age and that it threatens creative expression as never before. The Motion Picture Association of America, for instance, claimed that in 2005 the film industry lost $2.3 billion in revenue to piracy online. But here Adrian Johns shows that piracy has a much longer and more vital history than we have realized—one that has been largely forgotten and is little understood.

Piracy explores the intellectual property wars from the advent of print culture in the fifteenth century to the reign of the Internet in the twenty-first. Brimming with broader implications for today’s debates over open access, fair use, free culture, and the like, Johns’s book ultimately argues that piracy has always stood at the center of our attempts to reconcile creativity and commerce—and that piracy has been an engine of social, technological, and intellectual innovations as often as it has been their adversary. From Cervantes to Sonny Bono, from Maria Callas to Microsoft, from Grub Street to Google, no chapter in the story of piracy evades Johns’s graceful analysis in what will be the definitive history of the subject for years to come.

The Inventor's Guide to Writing Provisional Patent Applications The Guide contains the exclusive 3-D Method for provisional application writing, which shows you how to write a provisional in 3 easy steps. You will also learn how to shift from inventor-style thinking to patent attorney-style thinking and why this helps.

In the Guide you will learn:
- The purpose of a provisional application and how to make the most of it for your invention.
- The two parts required in a provisional patent application. If you leave one or both out, your application will not be effective.
- Two questions you must answer in your provisional application that help you meet the requirements.
- What to leave out (that many inventors include).
- How to find example provisional applications on file with the Patent Office for inventions in the same area of technology as your invention.
- Why you don’t need to “write like a lawyer.” And why doing so may hurt your application.
