This exquisite oak gate leg dining table was recently hand-crafted in England as an antique style reproduction. The oak displays a deep, lustrous complexion that contrasts beautifully with the lovely border of yew banding. The wood looks especially lovely, however, because of the elaborate seven-step finishing process that our cabinetmaker applied to this piece. This process ended with a fine, hand-rubbed coat of wax that really brings out the beauty of the wood in addition to adding an added layer of protection that can be repaired by simply re-waxing the surface twice a year. The bobbin-turned legs are likewise quite beautiful--but don't let their elegance fool you, they are very sturdy. The gate leg design itself is quite flexible, placing the width at 26" with the leaves down, and a total of 84" when the leaves are raised. The 7' x 5' surface is thus quite substantial and suitable for a variety of occasions. Lastly, because this table is brand new and made of solid oak, it is extremely sturdy and will last for generations to come--so this is definitely a quality heirloom piece!

This bobbin hourglass is a historic piece of art that measures 60 minutes of time. The timer is composed of antique wood spools found in abandoned textile mills in England. The spindles and wooden base were used from 1939-1945 during World War II in a factory in Barrowford Mill, Nelson. These particular spools held tire cord for the Morris and Austin Car Groups. The spindles were pewter shielded to protect the edges of the spool: Each timer has a cotton sticker from placed on its base. These stickers were made in New York in 1917 and found in cupboard in an abandoned sewing thread factory in Leek, Derbyshire: The sand glass is mouth-blown in the United Kingdom. The musical sounds in this recording were produced from a very unique and largely forgotten instrument, a Regina Music Box - a single-comb Model 13, 15 ½ disk player (serial #48625, manufactured in 1900, Rahway, New Jersey). We believe that the Regina's sound among all music boxes is particularly superb. The music boxes, equivalent to a sizable piece of furniture, were manufactured from 1892-1919. The introduction of the mass-produced Phonograph made further music box production no longer economically practical. The Crow set the standard for dark and violent comic-book movies (like Spawn or director Alex Proyas's superior follow-up, Dark City), but it will forever be remembered as the film during which star Brandon Lee (son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee) was accidentally killed on the set by a loaded gun. The filmmakers were able to digitally sample what they'd captured of Lee's performance and piece together enough footage to make the movie releasable. Indeed, it is probably more fascinating for that post-production story than for the tale on the screen. The Crow is appropriately cloaked in ominous expressionistic shadows, oozing urban dread and occult menace from every dank concrete crack, but it really adds up to a simple and perfunctory tale of ritual revenge. Guided by a portentous crow (standing in for Poe's raven), Lee plays a deceased rock musician who returns from the grave to systematically torture and kill the outlandishly violent gang of hoodlums who murdered him and his fiancée the year before. The film is worth watching for its compelling visuals and genuinely nightmarish, otherworldly ambience. --Jim Emerson
