This yew wood bookcase was made in England around 1960 and recently has been imported to our furniture store in Atlanta, GA. Yew wood has a spectacular grain and unique color making it quite beautiful when used in furniture like this bookcase. The cabinet doors of this bookcase display a wonderful example of how beautiful yew wood can be while the glass doors have a distinct arch pattern etched in them for a very sophisticated look. Both the doors lock with included key. The top has two adjustable and removable shelves and the bottom has one. There are two drawers which have dovetailed drawer joints, a sign of quality craftsmanship. The handles are a brass swan neck drop pull. This bookcase is in good condition with normal wear for its age in the form of small scratches and marks throughout that are hard to see unless you are up close and looking for them. Overall this is a beautiful piece that would make a great addition to any home or office.

This stunning flame mahogany bookcase was made in England around 1960 and would make wonderful addition to any home or office. The arched and bevelled glass doors house a mirrored bookcase section with three adjustable glass shelves. The top used to be lighted but would have to be rewired to fit our circuits. The cabinet doors below are done in a gorgeous flame mahogany with oval panels. This mahogany really jumps out at you and takes this piece to a whole other level. The cabinet houses one shelf and both the cabinet and glass doors lock with included key. Down the sides of the front are four fluted lines and the top is comprised of a moulded cornice. The entire bookcase sits on a plinth base and is very sturdy. The bookcase is in great condition with only minor wear, less than you would expect from a piece of this age. It does break down into two pieces (top and bottom) for easier transporting.

A finely engraved copperplate engraving on beautiful hand-made paper, this is a rare ornamental coat-of-arms for the ancestry of the Fox, Lord Holland family. This rare print is from Alexander Jacob's three volume work, "A Complete English Peerage," published London, 1766-1769. Jacobs (1731-1785) was educated at Worcester College and afterwards at Merton College, Oxford. He took Holy Orders in 1760 and was chaplain to the Duke of Chandos. In December, 1760, he became one of the chaplains to King George III. For many years, Jacobs was interested in studying the early works pertaining to British heraldry. He wished to learn all he could about the biography and history of the illustrious heroes and patriots whose deeds were so largely responsible for the expansion and growth of the British Empire. He was granted a license to print "A Complete English Peerage" which contained a "genealogical, biographical and historical account of peers of the realm." He apparently found genealogical charts rather boring compilations of names and dates as he included only 89 family charts in the three volumes. His focus was on the history of each of the families he included in this work. The very ornamental plates of coats-of-arms contained a shield with only the original insignia used by most of the families in the remote days of ancient knighthood. Specific details were given in the text to determine the correct heraldic colors to be used. The hand coloring has been added by a professional colorist. This engraving of the coat-of-arms for King , Lord King, shows at the top, a left arm and hand and the two side supporters are English Mastiffs. The motto "Labor Ipse Voluptas " loosely translated means 'Even Labor Itself Is A Pleasre' and is above the name. Of great interest are copies of the original text pages and a copy of the original title page.

Palmetto Silver is the first publication in more than a dozen years to showcase the riches of South Carolina silver. Based on a 2002 exhibition by the same name at the University of South Carolina's McKissick Museum, Palmetto Silver is the result of several years of research and draws heavily on items from private collections throughout the South. While much of the previous research has concentrated primarily on Charleston silver made prior to the Civil War, the silver featured in this book highlights the work of South Carolina craftsmen from colonial times to the twentieth century. Although many historians previously theorized that most silver items used in the South were imported from merchants and workshops in New England or even from Great Britain, Palmetto Silver presents recent findings that indicate there were many highly skilled silversmiths working throughout the state during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. An introductory essay by Rodger Stroup, director of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, sets the historical context for these objects and provides insight into the important role they had in society. Palmetto Silver includes a comprehensive listing of 216 objects, 69 color images, a directory of silversmiths and merchants, and an illustrated listing of makers’ marks. Among the diverse array of objects included and illustrated are military swords, shotguns, walking canes, tea services, award trophies, and presentation pieces. One outstanding example of featured craftsmanship is a hand-chased cream or milk pitcher that was presented to the city of Columbia’s African American fire brigade in 1846.
