Everyone knows what the 'G-spot' is, of course. It is a woman's most sensitive and vulnerable physical area. Although men do not have a G-spot per se, both men and women have what Joan Lachkar calls a 'V-spot'--a concentration of highly charged emotional sensitivities emanating from early childhood experiences that remain raw and unhealed. These experiences might involve the parent who abandoned the child at an early age, the mother who smothered the child with too much affection, or the child who was neglected and never touched or soothed. Another source can be a parent or caretaker who drills the message into the child, 'You're not good enough, not deserving enough, too demanding,' etc. For men it could be an emotionally castrating, controlling, dominating, overbearing mother. Many authors have written and talked about emotional abuse, but until The V-Spot no one has given this area of volcanic emotion a name or has written about it in terms accessible to layman and professional alike. Getting in contact with the V-spot is the only way to break away from emotional abuse and begin the healing process. No other book pinpoints not only what ignites the V-spot but also how and why the resulting affect-explosion interferes with judgment, reality, thinking, and perception. The reader will be astonished to discover how tracing the source of one's V-spot strengthens one's capacity to make complex decisions and lessens the repetitive cycle of pain, anxiety, confusion, and turmoil that blindness to one's V-spot can produce.Author: Joan Lachkar Paperback: 202 pages Company: Jason Aronson, Inc. Mark is hiding beneath his bedcovers, shaking, tears streaming down his cheeks. He hears his parents shouting nasty words at each other and the sounds of crashing coming from the kitchen. The last time this happened, his mother got a black eye and a split lip. Mark has come to believe that the fighting is his fault and that he should be able to prevent it.Elizabeth hides under her bed because she knows what is coming. Her mother climbs the stairs and throws open the bedroom door. She is yelling as she drags her daughter out from under the bed. While beating Elizabeth with a hairbrush, she screams, “I’ll teach you to hit your little brother!” Jose knows the routine. As he and his father walk into the house, he prepares himself for another tongue-lashing. He struck out three times during the game and will now pay a heavy price for his failure. His father begins with the usual comments about being “disgusted” and “embarrassed.” As he hears the word “sissy,” Jose begins to wish he were dead. Katrina begins to feel sick in the stomach as her dad sits down next to her on the couch. She knows he is going to touch her in places a father should not touch his daughter. Katrina is confused because her dad is smiling and talking in a friendly voice as he fondles her. She wants to scream, but remains silent because she can smell the alcohol on his breath. Each of these incidents takes place thousands of times every day in America’s most violent institution – the family. Children are more likely to be murdered, physically assaulted, sexually abused or psychologically injured in their own home than anywhere else. Although the issue of domestic violence is not new, the public has only recently become aware of this national problem. The National Crime Survey (conducted by the Department of Justice) reported the following: 1) about 1.5 million cases of domestic violence involving children are reported each year; 2) another million cases go unreported and 3) between two and five thousand children die each year because of domestic violence. Domestic violence involving children is more than doubling every decade. While some of this huge growth can be attributed to increased reporting and better record keeping, domestic violence against children is reaching epidemic proportions. The above statistics include only those incidents in which children were the “direct” target of domestic violence. Millions of other young people endure the “indirect” results of family violence. Because of these experiences, children can suffer from anxiety, depression, guilt and fear. These feelings can follow the child throughout his or her life and the effects can be devastating. Many of these young people mistakenly feel responsible for the violence and some go on to commit domestic violence when they become parents. Author: Ronald E. Sharp, Waln K. This clinician's manual and workbook were developed to provide alternatives in the efforts to reduce the national epidemic of spouse/partner maltreatment. Geffner and Mantooth describe a model incorporating several theories and approaches of psychotherapy, while focusing on abuse as a primary issue. The program and techniques have been used and improved for more than 15 years in programs across the country. The clinician will receive a comprehensive intervention program that includes 26 weekly sessions that address how to initiate the foundations for a therapeutic relationship; communicate and express feelings; teach self-management and assertiveness techniques; discuss intimacy issues; and implement a relapse prevention program. Each session contains brief intervention techniques, handouts, and homework assignments. The advantage of this approach is its flexibility. Modifications to the order in which the sessions are conducted can be made by trained clinicians to fit the needs of their clients. How does an intelligent, beautiful young woman come to this end?Kassi Visage-Lowe was born Kassi Lee Schlangen in Spokane, Washington, January 9, 1959. She was happy and excited about life, a little girl with promise for the future. Kassi was talented; she loved to sing and draw and express herself. As she grew up, she found that school was easy for her. Social contacts were not. Kassi would speak up when challenged and fight you when wronged. She became combative and defensive—she made her opinion known. For that she was beaten time and time again. Kassi fought back, alienating herself from family...at least in her mind. Soon Kassi would trust no adult. She separated herself from friends and family and spent more time alone. She prayed to Jesus but there was no one else in her life. Love Me is the story of a girl with high hopes never realized. Kassi’s confused adulthood was the end result of childhood sexual, physical and mental abuse — leading to bipolar disorder and a life of drug use, prostitution and self-destruction. Her story is also a lesson about the indifference of our society. How many other Kassis will we turn our backs on? In this absorbing story of how child abuse grew from a small, private-sector charity concern into a multimillion-dollar social welfare issue, Barbara Nelson provides important new perspectives on the process of public agenda setting. Using extensive personal interviews and detailed archival research, she reconstructs an invaluable history of child abuse policy in America. She shows how the mass media presented child abuse to the public, how government agencies acted and interacted, and how state and national legislatures were spurred to strong action on this issue. Nelson examines prevailing theories about agenda setting and introduces a new conceptual framework for understanding how a social issue becomes part of the public agenda. This issue of child abuse, she argues, clearly reveals the scope and limitations of social change initiated through interest-group politics. Unfortunately, the process that transforms an issue into a popular cause, Nelson concludes, brings about programs that ultimately address only the symptoms and not the roots of such social problems. The studies produced 308 distinct effect sizes. These effect sizes were then used to calculate composite effect sizes for 16 perpetration and 9 victimization risk factors. Large effect sizes were found between perpetration of physical abuse and five risk factors (emotional abuse, forced sex, illicit drug use, attitudes condoning marital violence, and marital satisfaction). Moderate effect sizes were calculated between perpetration of physical abuse and six risk factors (traditional sex-role ideology, anger/hostility, history of partner abuse, alcohol use, depression, and career/life stress). A large effect size was calculated between physical violence victimization and the victim using violence toward her partner. Moderate effect sizes were calculated between female physical violence victimization and depression and fear of future abuse. Author: S.M. Stith, D.B. Smith, C.E. Penn, D.B. Evidence is mounting that animal abuse, frequently embedded in families scarred by domestic violence and child abuse and neglect, often predicts the potential for other violent acts. As early intervention is critical in the prevention and reduction of aggression, this boo encourages researchers and professionals to recognize animal abuse as significant problem and a human public-health issue that should be included as a curriculum topic in training. The book is an interdisciplinary sourcebook of original essays that examines the relations between animal maltreatment and human interpersonal violence, expands the scope of research in this growing area, and provides practical assessment and documentation strategies to help professionals confronting violence do their jobs better by attending to these connections. This book brings together, for the first time, all of the leaders in this emerging field. They examine contemporary research and programmatic issues, encourage cross-disciplinary interactions, and describe innovative programs in the field today. The book also includes vivid first-person accounts from "survivors" whose experiences included animal maltreatment among other forms of family violence. DRUG USE AND ABUSE takes an interdisciplinary approach in its coverage of current drug issues. It weaves psychological, historical, cultural, social, biological, and medical perspectives -- emphasizing the idea that a drug's effects depend not only on its properties, but also on the biological and psychological characteristics of its user. This theme is highlighted throughout, and is prominent in discussions of the individual classes of drugs, as well as in the chapters on pharmacology and psychopharmacology.Author: Stephen A. DOES YOUR PARTNER . . .* have sudden outbursts of anger or rage? * become jealous without reason? * prevent you from seeing friends and family? * deny you access to family assets such as bank accounts, credit cards, or the car? * control all finances and force you to account for what you spend? * insult you or call you derogatory names? * humiliate you in front of your children? * turn minor incidents into major arguments? If you or someone you know can answer "yes" to the questions above, chances are you are suffering from nonphysical battering--controlling, tyrannical behavior that is just as damaging to a woman's self-esteem as a broken bone or a black eye. An experienced counselor who works with abused women, Mary Susan Miller breaks the silence that surrounds this devastating form of domestic violence. She identifies the many types of nonphysical abuse verbal, emotional, psychological, social, and economic--and explores why this outrageous treatment of women continues unabated in our society. Dr. Miller also shares the stories of many survivors who have escaped their abusive relationships. Their experiences--with law enforcement, the legal system, and the community itself--can help prepare any woman for the decision of whether to stay or leave the relationship. And if she decides to go, Dr. Miller offers sound guidelines on how to protect herself and her children, since a woman's decision to leave is usually the time she is in the most danger from her abuser. Finally, Dr. Miller inspires hope: You can break free of the nightmare of nonphysical battering and heal, once again engaging in a life of integrity, dignity, and peace. This book provides a well-researched biblical and scientific overview of abuse. A broad overview, it deals with the various types of abuse, the various effects of abuse, and the means of healing. Abuse can be sexual, physical, neglect, spiritual, and verbal. The chief arguments pursued throughout the book are: (1) abuse is far more rampant than most Christians realize, but due to human depravity and satanic influence, widespread abuse is predicable. (2) All types of abuse create profound, long-term soul damage due to the way abuse perverts various aspects of the image of God. (3) God is the healing redeemer. Human salvation came through horrible physical abuse. (4) Healing must take place in the context of relationships. Humans are deeply impacted by others due to being made in the image of God. Just as surely as abusive relationships have tremendous power to wound the soul, so healthy relationships have tremendous power to nurture and heal the soul. Questions answered in the book include: - How can a genuine believer abuse a child? - Why would someone abuse a child? - How can parents and childrens' workers identify abusers? - How can abuse victims heal? - What does genuine healing look like? - Is anger appropriate or hurtful for abuse victims? - Where does forgiveness fit in? Helpful sample child protection policy, application, screening interview, and warning signs of potential abusers equip ministry leaders. Illustrations, case studies, and art therapy drawings.Author: Steven R. Tracy Paperback: 272 pages ISBN13: 9780310285298, Condition: New, Notes: BRAND NEW FROM PUBLISHER! 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. The predominant message in our culture is that it's okay to have sex whenever, wherever, and however we want. Sex has become just sex. But while society has taken sex too far, the church hasn't taken it far enough.God wants couples to make love in marriage-with passion, with purpose, and with pleasure. Marriages aren't experiencing all the benefits that come from a healthy sex life. Couples are facing a barrage of influences that keep them from connecting with each other regularly-the kids, the career, the house, the errands, etc. SEXPERIMENT shows people that sex in marriage is more than just sex, and it's more than a chore. The Youngs believe it's time to get back to understanding the context of sex in marriage and that it's time for couples to break the barriers keeping them from a healthy sexual relationship. Couples ought to experience the benefits of having sex regularly, intentionally, and creatively. SEXPERIMENT will allow couples to discover that the intersection of God and sex can lead to a life punctuated by exclamation marks!
