I was wondering if it was possible to withdraw her from the school and home-school her even though it's late into the school year? Is it possible to start home-schooling now, when I am in high school? How does home schooling work, exactly, and how much does it cost? What is required to convert from home schooling to public schooling? Does home schooling prepare students for college? BUY NOW to get all your questions answered and much more. Below is some of an overview of the book. Homeschooling is the practice of educating children at home as opposed to sending them to a public or private school, this practice is also called home based learning or home education. Learning is usually carried out by either or both parents and sometimes a tutor. It is less formal in nature and the curriculum, although patterned after conventional educational standards, is more flexible. In the days when school attendance was not compulsory, most of a child’s education happened at home or within the community. The curriculum consisted of the basic skills and concepts in reading and writing, languages, literature, arts, mathematics, and the sciences. Families that practice in a specific trade often incorporate early introduction in the family business for their children as well. Although home education has been practiced throughout the ages, in America, the first to formalize the Homeschool system is Calvert Day School in Baltimore, Maryland in 1905. The idea came from Virgil Hillyer, a Harvard-trained scholar and the Head Master of the Calvert Day School. He convinced a local bookstore to sell a homeschool kit with Kindergarten curriculum that parents can use to teach their children. This will give them the same educational advantages even though they are unable to send their kids to school. The homeschool kit consisted of basic reading and handwriting instructions as well as a teaching guide. Soon, the Hillyer advertised the availability of the kit through mail, parents could purchase it for only $5.00, and the ad was placed in the National Geographic. The response was massive as parents not only began using the Kindergarten curriculum but also began asking for Elementary school materials as their own children grew. In its first year, the concept spread like wildfire, parents in 42 states were using the homeschool kit and over 300 children were enrolled under the Calvert Day School program. Over the next years, the program was known as the Home Instruction Department, homeschooling has become a world wide phenomenon with lesson manuals, workbooks, textbooks and other school supplies were being shipped all over the world. Others began to follow suit and today, with the birth of the internet, there are a multitude of information and resources to help parents who wish to homeschool their children. With the implementation of compulsory school attendance laws, attending public and private schools has become the main practice when it comes to childhood education. A public school education is able to provide children in different levels, from kindergarten through high school, with academic instruction and holistic development necessary to serve as their tools in building a future. The government educational system is able to provide access to resources, that was then available to only a privileged few, to children all over the country and the around the globe. Private school education also offers such and entry to them is a matter of preference and financial capacity of the parents. This video should answer ALL your questions about Home Schooling. For example: Why do parents invest time and resources to do what the government does for nothing? Is Home Schooling legal? What about kids' socialization? Can uncertified parents teach? Will colleges and universities accept Home Schoolers? Why do Home Schools exceed the accomplishements of public schools? How can others get into the act? ... locate materials? ... find help? We all need the right amount of time to learn something. Some need more than others. Some can do it in less. Classroom teachers can't deal with this. Students given the right "Time for Learning" do it better. Home Schooling 101 tells the story with examples, evidence, testimonials and hard facts. It deals effectively with the major myths that have grown up around this movement. The second half of the video follows a three-child family through 12 years of alternative learning; astounding evidence of successful accomplishment. A primer for parents, educators, politicians and the media. Meet the Home School Pioneers and see why they are winning. DIRECTOR Monte Ussery, EdD, has produced, written, directed and/or edited over 300 non-theatrical motion pictures, some of which won national awards for excellence. He is a graduate of the UCLA Theater Arts program. Monte says he was priviledged to teach school three years before finding employment in the film industry. With a Doctorate in educational technology, he was exposed to training methods used by government agencies and large corporations; methods which produced a higher level of performance than that produced by classic teaching methods. These are the same techniques recommended by the Home Schooling Gurus. Publicizing this movement became a crusade for Dr. Ussery, and has culminated in this introductory video treatment of a national sub-culture. Includes Dr. Raymond and Dorothy Moore, Dr. Harold Wengert and Sycamore Tree's Sandy Gogel. Susan Pargman provides interview continuity, and Narrator Al Gundby ties it all together. Other players speak through sound bites to present the case for and against schooling at home. The format has been compared to a 60 minutes double feature. VHS Tape:
