Alone But Not LostA psychological thriller about a woman, her secrets, and living on the edge of sanity.

Sin should have known better than to trust anybody. People can’t be trusted to tell the truth. Not then, not now, not ever.
They said Glyn would be locked up for twenty-five years but that was a lie. She checks the windows and bolts the doors, but it’s not enough, he’ll find a way in. He always has.
Memories creep into Sin’s head and pick at her brain until she can’t think straight. Her only hope is to run. She will have to clear out the house and burn everything. Or bury it. Obliterate the past. Then she’ll go far away where nobody knows her. Yes, that’s what she’ll do - run. Now, before now is too late.

Trauma and Recovery: The Aftermath of Violence--from Domestic Abuse to Political Terror
When Trauma and Recovery was first published in 1992, it was hailed as a groundbreaking work. In the intervening years, Herman’s volume has changed the way we think about and treat traumatic events and trauma victims. In a new afterword, Herman chronicles the incredible response the book has elicited and explains how the issues surrounding the topic have shifted within the clinical community and the culture at large.Trauma and Recovery brings a new level of understanding to a set of problems usually considered individually. Herman draws on her own cutting-edge research in domestic violence as well as on the vast literature of combat veterans and victims of political terror, to show the parallels between private terrors such as rape and public traumas such as terrorism. The book puts individual experience in a broader political frame, arguing that psychological trauma can be understood only in a social context. Meticulously documented and frequently using the victims’ own words as well as those from classic literary works and prison diaries, Trauma and Recovery is a powerful work that will continue to profoundly impact our thinking.

The Unloved: How Emotional Abuse Destroys Our SoulsHere is the promise: You will never look at a parent, a child…yourself….the same way after reading “The Unloved”. Using contemporary, multi-disciplinary research, author T. M. Dracos, tells the controversial story of how the human personality is deformed by emotional abuse. The surpassing levels of needless suffering – both physical and mental – that the victims of unlove must endure are documented in meticulous detail in both vignettes, profiles and case studies – people from soul-singer James Brown to JFK – from the ancient Athenians to modern mothers who murder their children.

Not only do we come to understand the special pain of the unloved – we learn what the pervasive consequences of abuse are for all of us. “The Unloved” is a book of original insight and understanding – and a call to arms to become conscious of, and then overcome, perhaps the most pernicious human psychological force there is.

Stalking the Soul: Emotional Abuse and the Erosion of IdentityIt is possible to destroy someone simply with words, looks, and innuendos: the term for this is emotional abuse or moral harassment, and the evidence is mounting that this a major epidemic in our culture. In this landmark study, already a bestseller in France and forthcoming on over ten countries, the author analyzes, with numerous examples, the specific features of an abusive relationship-and cautions against complacency. She demonstrates a deadly process at work among couples, families, and in the workplace, a process that sweeps its victims into a downward vortex that can even lead to suicide. Until now the subject of emotional abuse through perverse violence has been largely neglected. This noteworthy and well-documented book is a practical guide for its victims and for people wishing to help them, as well as for health professionals. Written clearly and vividly, Stalking the Soul will engage all those who choose not to remain indifferent to a painful and surprisingly widespread problem in our society today.

Mobbing: Emotional Abuse in the American WorkplaceEveryday capable, hardworking, committed employees suffer emotional abuse at their workplace. Some flee from jobs they love, forced out by mean-spirited co-workers, subordinates or superiors -- often with the tacit approval of higher management.

The authors, Dr. Noa Davenport, Ruth Distler Schwartz, and Gail Pursell Elliott have written a book for every employee and manager in America. The book deals with what has become a household word in Europe: Mobbing.

Mobbing is a "ganging up" by several individuals, to force someone out of the workplace through rumor, innuendo, intimidation, discrediting, and particularly, humiliation. Mobbing is a serious form of nonsexual, nonracial harassment. It has been legally described as status-blind harassment.

Mobbing affects the mental and physical health of victims. It extracts staggering costs from victims, their families, and from organizations.

With this new book, Mobbing: Emotional Abuse in the American Workplace, there is a name for the problem and help for the victims. The book helps readers to understand what mobbing is, why it occurs, how it affects a victim and organizations, and what people can so. The authors have interviewed victims from across the U.S. and the book contains many quotes that poignantly illustrate the gravity of the mobbing experience. An overview of the literature and research is provided as well as many practical strategies to help the victims, managers, healthcare and legal professionals. Original drawings by Sabra Vidali express the depth of the experience and enhance the authors' work.

Breaking Free from Emotional Abuse: How to Restore Your Joy by Healing Your Life (Healing Emotional Abuse Book 2)This book continues where the book 'Signs of Emotional Abuse' left off.
In this book, readers who have discovered they are now living in an emotionally abusive relationship, can plan to rescue themselves from the effects of emotional abuse.

While many books suggest leaving an emotionally abusive relationship is the best solution, very few address the pros and cons of managing such relationship from an objective point of view. There might be other factors which make impossible to leave...
For this reason also, this book not only discuss how to leave an emotionally abusive relationship, but also how to stay and stop it.

The book contains one "checklist" for each option, where the reader will find :
What reactions should be expected. What is the only focus you need to keep in your mind. What boundaries need to be set in each case. What emotional abuse "hooks" are to be avoided. The reader will find strategies to take charge of her painful situation and improve it, using the comprehensive recovery plan outlined at the end of the book. There is also an extra section on how to help a friend that is suffering an emotional abuse situation.

When Love Is a Lie: Narcissistic Partners & the Pathological Relationship Agenda[Now includes a 14-page excerpt from Zari Ballard's new book Stop Spinning, Start Breathing]

When our committed relationship involves a narcissistic partner or someone with a narcissistic personality disorder, it is inevitable that the experience, at some point, will take a very dark turn. Pathological liars, chronic cheaters, and masters at passive-aggressive punishments (i.e. the silent treatment), narcissists follow a specific relationship agenda where every deceptive move is deliberately calculated to confuse and abuse the people who love them. And, as crazy as it appears, those who love the narcissist will stick it out, thinking they can fix this person or love them out of their bad behavior. We imagine the narcissist as mentally ill and, therefore, repairable. We bargain with logic, ignore our intuition, and become master truth spinners. And the truth, of course, is that narcissists, psychopaths, and sociopaths can never be fixed - not with love, therapy, and not with any magic pill. I know and understand...because I stumbled down this very path for twelve long years.

Do the behaviors of your partner continually cause you to feel suspicious? Are you subjected to silent treatments and other forms of controlling punishments? Do you find yourself choosing to overlook these behaviors rather than face a confrontation? Does your partner appear to create chaos just to keep you feeling anxious and insecure? Are you obsessed with trying to figure it all out? Answering "yes" to any of the above indicates that you may be involved with a narcissistic partner...a person without a conscience...a pretender...someone who is manipulating your life to suit his own purpose. You may even feel an agonizing codependency - not only to the narcissist but to the drama itself - and this, too, is an intention of the narcissist's pathological relationship agenda.

When Love Is a Lie is a personal, non-clinical narrative that exposes the typical manipulative behavioral patterns of narcissistic partners. Based on my own 12-year experience, this book deliberately offers no excuses for narcissism (medical or otherwise) nor does it encourage readers to cut a narcissistic partner any slack whatsoever. This book is about the reality of the situation, about why we become codependent to the drama, and, most importantly, what we can do about all of it to save our own lives.

Learn how/why a lover or partner with a narcissistic personality...
can never have - or even pretend to have - the love-worthy human qualities (the undeniable truths!) that make up the beauty of life.can - and probably has - deliberately and methodically managed down your relationship expectations so that you expect less and he gets away with morewill use the Silent Treatment and similar demoralizing methods ofcontrol to punish those who dare to call him out on questionable
behaviorswill create chaos even during "good" times as a tactic for keeping you in a constant state of codependent anxietywill juggle many relationships at once and often for years with no one being the wiser...not even youlies even when the truth is a better storyRealizing the truth about your narcissistic partner is never easy but it's not the end of the world. Use this book to separate yourself from the narcissistic drama once and for all.

Emotional Abuse:: The Hidden War for Power and Control in Your Relationship (Healing Emotional Abuse Book 1)When we are in search of a deep emotional connection, this need can be so important to us that we become blind to the danger signals sent by the other person's behaviors. We try to be emotionally connected, but the person we love has serious needs to be in control to feel connected...and feeling loved gets confused with being abused, fast.

It can get to the point when we are not sure what the difference between love and emotional abuse is, don’t recognize obvious emotional abuse signs or are not sure how to do emotional abuse recovery.
In this book, readers are invited to understand the core notions of emotional abuse and emotionally abusive relationships, and their differences with a loving, secure relationship.
It begins with definitions and explanations of why an emotionally abusive marriage happens, then works its way up to helping the reader analyze if she is in an abusive relationship. The book helps the reader find her own thoughts about her personal situation (or that of a friend), together with real, vivid stories of women who have survived abuse and grown from it into full people.

You might think that emotional abuse is easy to spot or define. But the reason so many people suffer from an emotionally abusive marriage is that it is hard to tell what is abusive and what is not, because lots of abuse is framed under "care." You have to ask whether your partner is hindering your development as an adult by the use of excessive control. You have to ask yourself whether or not the person you love is hurting you. A marriage has to be an equal relationship, but using control between partners destroys this balance and prevents their individual growth. Here is useful information about ways to decide if what you are experiencing is care or abusive control.

By addressing the signs of spousal emotional abuse, Nora shines a light on this painful issue. For readers needing support in healing emotional abuse, the next book of this series: “Breaking Free from Emotional Abuse: How to Restore Your Joy by Healing Your Life,” will continue the support of the emotional abuse healing process.

Life can feel very disappointing if you are in a relationship that is abusive. This is especially so because it will be assumed that the person you are in the relationship with loves you and therefore you wouldn’t expect such negative treatment from them. Whereas there are many forms of abuse in a relationship, verbal abuse is one of the most confusing, and many people suffer in silence not knowing what to do, especially because verbal abuse does not leave a visible mark or scar that is outright identifiable. However, it is easy to suffer great pain from this kind of abuse, as compared to physical abuse, especially because it penetrates even deeper to the point of affecting your mind and emotions - the effects of which could be permanently damaging in the long run. You do not have to continue to live unhappily, and neither should your abuser continue with this habit out of ignorance. This book will help you to know whether you are being abused verbally and how you can deal with this problem in order to enjoy a healthy relationship and lead a happy life.

UnreachableThey say no student is beyond reach - he's out to prove them wrong.

Janice Rosenthal is entering her eighth year of teaching, but it might be her last. Never before has she had a student as unruly and insubordinate as this one. Andrew Bryant is the terror of seventh grade, a student known for driving teachers to the edge of retirement, and he
is in her class.

How can Janice--and the rest of her students--make it through the school year with such a disruptive force in the classroom? Her only hope is to try to break through the orphan's defenses, to pierce a wall that no other teacher has ever scratched.

When she discovers Andrew's secret, two lives will be changed forever.

Even for those who know nothing about gender identity problems and probably never give it a thought, this is a great read. And this novel will surely give some people a better understanding of the difficulties confronting someone who is so different in an uncaring, often unforgiving world.

Understanding Narcissistic Mothers: The guide to surviving and recovering from the shattering experience of having a narcissistic mother (Empowering Change Book 5)START YOUR JOURNEY TO FREEDOM AS YOU UNDERSTAND NARCISSISTIC MOTHERS AND LEARN HOW TO RECOVER FROM THEM
This week only, get this Kindle book for just $0.99. Regularly priced at $4.99. Read on your PC, Mac, smart phone or Kindle device.

Whether you are the child of a narcissist, a loved one of the child (or mother), or simply someone who is interested in the topic; then this book contains invaluable information for you. Having a narcissistic mother is an incredibly destructive way to grow up, because things are not as they appear.

To the outside world everything can appear perfect, and even the child will think that their mother is perfect. But if everything is so perfect, why does the child feel so essentially worthless, and that they are completely foundationless as a person? Even though the child will just ‘know’ that something isn’t right, they themselves will think that ‘this can't possibly be me’...their mother is perfect and they are the product and reflection of that perfection.

However if a mother is TRULY narcissistic then she is completely self-centered. Although she can 'act the part', and put on a good face, she actually has no true nurturing motivation towards her children. The results of growing up with a mother like this are devastating.

This book contains invaluable information on how to not only understand the narcissistic mother, but also start the recovery process. This can be a long process of rediscovery. You will be re-learning things you thought you already knew, both about yourself and the world.
The goal of this book is to give you some practical steps to understanding and starting that journey.

Spare the Child: The Religious Roots of Punishment and the Psychological Impact of Physical AbuseThis is a richly researched, acutely unsettling study of corporal punishment in the United States. It focuses on the "Christian" use of Biblical texts to justify corporal punishment and its destructive legacy in our culture. Greven's insightful scholarship traces rationales for parental brutality through generations of religious apocalyptic thinking. His forceful argument takes the issue of physical discipline from the realm of parental rights and tradition and makes finding an alternative a moral responsibility.

The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse: Recognizing and Escaping Spiritual Manipulation and False Spiritual Authority Within the ChurchIn a breakthrough book first published in 1991, the authors address the dynamics in churches that can ensnare people in legalism, guilt, and begrudging service, keeping them from the grace and joy of God's kingdom.Written for both those who feel abused and those who may be causing it, The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse shows how people get hooked into abusive systems, the impact of controlling leadership on a congregation, and how the abused believer can find rest and recovery.

Healing Spiritual Abuse: How to Break Free from Bad Church ExperienceAre you a victim of Spiritual Abuse? Are you discouraged from questioning the decisions or teachings church leaders make?If you do little or no volunteer work for the church, do you feel like a second-class Christian?Does your pastor insist on being addressed by a title such as "Dr." or "Pastor"?Do you hear many broad, vague appeals to "surrender fully," "yield completely" or "lay it all on the altar"?Are public reports about various ministry activities sometimes exaggerated?Do church members feel safe talking only about past victories, not present struggles? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be a victim of spiritual abuse. Many of us have gone through bad church experiences that have left us feeling like failures. Blaming ourselves, we asked for God's forgiveness, but felt distant from the church and sometimes from God too. Often, however, the fault is not ours but that of Christian leaders who abuse spiritually. How can we recognize the signs of spiritual abuse? What can we do to gain healing from the wounds we have experienced? With clarity and refreshing honesty, Ken Blue answers these questions and offers hope and healing to the victims of spiritual abuse. In addition he shows Christian leaders how to avoid abusive patterns and instead offer Christ's gospel of grace to every casualty of bad church experiences.

When Love Hurts:: Repairing The Pain of Loving an Emotionally Abusive Person (Emotional Abuse Book 4)This boook offers you a new view of any abusive relationship as a contract for learning through pain. In this way, we build on these facts:
-we are born in this life with a purpose to accomplish
-we are supposed to discover which purpose each one of us has
-we have to apply all our energies and skills to accomplish this purpose

If we came to this world with a purpose, and we need to learn some skills in life to be able to accomplish our life mission, then entering into very difficult situations, such as an abuse situation where one can end up tortured or severely hurt is part of life's program. It has the purpose of teaching us resilience. With resilience, emotional abuse does not control you; you control emotional abuse and use it to make yourself stronger.

Which skills can we learn? Resilience is composed of several other skills:

~Patience, to be in this situation and don't despair that life can be good;
~Stubbornness, or unending hope that an exit is near;
~Strategy, to learn from the enemy about how to outsmart him/her
~Endurance, as not to forget that the objective is not win the war but to survive
~Humor, because in desperate situations helps lighten them

Of course, not everybody reading this lesson will accept this frame, and most of you could be hurt thinking that I'm promoting using pain to teach others. Please understand that I don't want to invalidate your pain, frustration, depression, loneliness, or desire to give up. Emotional abuse is a real wound, with a real perpetrator. At the same time, I want you to be able to take control of your own situation, and use the pain life is giving you to make your life better. Otherwise, the emotional abuse is a “stain” that you try to hide by covering it up, always moving fast into the future and other distractions so that your pain isn't rearing it's ugly head. Here you learn that each challenge big or small is presented to teach us some lesson to make us wiser or stronger.

Severing the Connection: An Instruction Manual of Escaping Emotional AbuseThe author of this book is a survivor of emotional abuse. The techniques in the book may not be for everyone. It is the opinion of one person who has experienced verbal and psychological abuse first-hand, combined with portions of interviews with other victims of emotional abuse. You are encouraged to further educate yourself on emotional abuse and, if needed, seek counseling in order to deal with your abuse. You are also encouraged to use the margins and open areas of this manual to take notes concerning your personal situation.

Unlike its predecessor, the LETTERS edition (edition 2) of SEVERING THE CONNECTION: An Instruction Manual for Escaping Emotional Abuse focuses less on the reasons why abusers abuse, and more on the steps you need to take to leave that abuse behind. The new edition features letters which illustrate different aspects of emotional abuse, moments of realization, and steps taken to end it once and for all.

Living and Loving after Betrayal: How to Heal from Emotional Abuse, Deceit, Infidelity, and Chronic Resentment
Betrayal has many faces, including anger, abuse, deceit, and infidelity. These feel like betrayal because they violate the implicit promise of emotional bonds, that your loved one will care about your wellbeing and never intentionally hurt you. If you've recently left a relationship where you felt betrayed by your partner—or if you want to repair one—it can seem impossible to view the world without the shadow of past betrayal hovering over you. As a result, you may struggle to create meaning in your life, find the strength to forgive, or build new, loving relationships.

In Living and Loving after Betrayal, therapist and relationship expert Steven Stosny offers effective tools for healing, based on his highly successful CompassionPower program. He founded the CompassionPower agency on the belief that we are more powerful when compassionate than when angry or aggressive, and that true strength comes from relating compassionately to others and remaining true to your deeper values. In this book, you’ll learn practical strategies for overcoming betrayal-induced trauma and the chronic resentment and depression that result, using this innovative compassion-empowerment approach.

Most books on betrayal only focus on the obvious issues, such as infidelity, abuse, or sex addiction. This book explores the effects of those kinds of betrayal, as well as less-talked-about types, such as emotional manipulation, dishonesty, deceit, and financial cheating. In addition, the book helps you regain a sense of trust in others so that you can eventually find another compassionate person to share your life with or, if you choose, to rebuild a relationship with your reformed betrayer.

Recovering from the betrayal of partner isn’t easy, but Living and Loving after Betrayal offers potent ways to heal, grow, and love again.

Locked Away: Stolen Innocence: A Story of Horrific Abuse (Child Abuse Series Book 3)Little Chrissy had it all: a mother she thought loved her more than life itself, and a father that doted on her. That is, until the night her mother abandoned her. With her mother gone, her father's life spiraled downward. And when it did, so did hers. He kept her locked up in her bedroom which became her little prison cell. When her father left town, he'd lock her in the tiny cellar with only the hot water heater for companionship. And, even worse, Chrissy was the unwilling victim of repeated rapes.

Excerpt:
His nose flared and his eyes blazed with anger. The man came closer. He raised a hand and backhanded me across my face. The pain exploded through my cheek. At the same time my legs folded beneath me and I crumpled to the floor.

From the floorboards, I looked up and saw my stepmother’s hang-out buddy standing over me. Out of desperation I tried to bargain with him. “If you go now, I promise I won’t say anything about you being in here.”

“Oh, you won’t say anything,” he retorted. He reached down, grabbed a handful of my hair and yanked me to my feet. The blanket no longer covered my....

Tips From This Kindle Book About Emotional Abuse
-Abusive people attempt to control their partner by using their wealth and resources, particularly in a marriage. They will often use what they have as a threat, convincing their partner that they will be absolutely nothing if they leave or by complaining of being treated badly.

- Your partner dictates how you look, how you dress, and how you
present yourself in general.

Professionals often say that this is the most common, and probably the most predictive sign of emotional abuse in a relationship, since it clearly exemplifies the abuser's need for control.

- Your partner prevents you from seeing the other people you love, such as friends and family.

Isolation makes you weaker and easier to break down, and abusive people see this as an opportunity to gain complete control and to manipulate their partner into cutting off from people who may try and dissuade them from staying.

Parental Emotional Abuse: Its Impact on AdulthoodParental Emotional Abuse: Its Impact on Adulthood
This book represents years of professional work with counselees from across cultures, economic, social, and spiritual backgrounds. The vignettes and events are based on actual situations which the counselor experienced in her work. Most of the data comes from direct sessions of personal, first-hand encounter from a combination of divorcees, singles, mothers, and people who have had multiple romantically failed relationships. Those relationships brought them pain, anguish, anger, and disappointments.
There are successful adult professionals who are living in emotional pain as a result of parental emotional abuses. Many will not admit to the distress but their actions, attitudes and behaviours communicate that something is missing.
Emotional hurts begin in childhood, the time when the child is impressive and most vulnerable. It is during this period he or she is making sense of the world, love, relationship with parents and siblings, and understanding the complexities and involvement of socialization. This is the stage when trust and personality begin to emerge in order to interact and relate to others.
If the child receives mixed messages from parents in terms of the way they respond to other siblings with care and respect, but he or she is severely punished for violations, these are the events which will remain in the psyche and will most certainly affect the emotions. Unless something happens to change attitudes and understanding of socialization concerning parental responses, any negative belief will become fixated and continue towards adulthood. One of the main fixations is emotional paralysis after a very painful event which was not resolved.
Childhood is the time when children are supposed to be carefree, happy, impressionable and trusting; they absorb love as the trees absorb carbon dioxide. They love the charms and mystic moments which seem so magical and delightful. They are captivated by the wonders of life and its enigma which make them inquisitive leaving them fearless; and for some, invincible as they take risks without thought for consequences.
Parental Emotional Abuse: Its Impact on Adulthood is timely for two reasons: to help those persons who have been hiding behind those hurts while hurting others; and to let the emotionally damaged know that the neglect of their parents does not mean that everyone will be as unkind. Nevertheless, there are adults trapped in that emotional tunnel who generalize by introducing similar behaviours to their own children, or as professionals hurt their subordinates with offensive hostilities and antagonisms.
The emotionally aggrieved individual was maltreated, wronged, injured and victimized by a parent, but that he or she does not have to remain confined to a life of despair. There is hope and it begins with taking charge.
This book is ideal for Parents, Social Workers and those who work with children.

Emotional Assault: Recognizing an Abusive Partner's Bag of TricksWhen most people think of abuse, images of domestic violence come to mind. However, emotional abuse is a form of indirect violence that also deserves recognition. It is difficult to overcome because it is often impossible to identify. While domestic abuse is tragic, it is impossible to ignore the evidence of it. The impact of emotional abuse, on the other hand, is often invisible. Since others don’t see any physical scars, they have no idea how much the victim is suffering. When the emotionally abused spouse speaks up, people are often dismissive of her pain. This leaves the victim in a constant state of confusion and self-blame. In this book, author Lisa Kroulik identifies eight common tactics that emotionally abusive people use to control their partners, such as giving the silent treatment or playing the victim. Lisa Kroulik uses examples from her relationship with her former husband to help readers name abusive tactics in their own relationships. As she states in the introduction to this book, knowledge is power. After identifying a trait of emotionally abusive partners, Lisa Kroulik goes on to offer suggestions on how to confront it. She makes it clear that confronting the behavior may not make it stop and that each woman needs to decide for herself if her relationship is worth saving. The second section of Emotional Assault helps the reader assess her current relationship and provides resources should she decide to end it. This book is hopeful and engaging while empowering emotionally abused women to change their lives.

Emotional Blackmail: When the People in Your Life Use Fear, Obligation, and Guilt to Manipulate You"If you really loved me. . ."

"After all I've done for you. . ."

"How can you be so selfish. . ."

Do any of the above sound familiar? They're all examples of emotional blackmail, a powerful form of manipulation in which people close to us threaten to punish us for not doing what they want. Emotional blackmailers know how much we value our relationships with them. They know our vulnerabilities and our deepest secrets. They are our mothers, our partners, our bosses and coworkers, our friends and our lovers. And no matter how much they care about us, they use this intimate knowledge to give themselves the payoff they want: our compliance.

Susan Forward knows what pushes our hot buttons. Just as John Gray illuminates the communications gap between the sexes in Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, and Harriet Lerner describes an intricate dynamic in The Dance of Anger, so Susan Forward presents the anatomy of a relationship damaged by manipulation, and gives readers an arsenal of tools to fight back. In her clear, no-nonsense style, Forward provides powerful, practical strategies for blackmail targets, including checklists, practice scenarios and concrete communications techniques that will strengthen relationships and break the blackmail cycle for good.

When You Are Finished With This Kindle Book About Emotional Abuse You Will Understand:
Exactly what emotional abuse isThe effects of being emotionally abusedThe signs or red flags of an emotionally abusive personalityHow to heal from being emotionally abused and much, much more...

Some Tips From This Book on Emotional Abuse:
- Abusers often attempt to manipulate their partner into becoming completely dependent on them. They then use their ability to provide for their partner as a threat, and will often emphasize that their partner won’t be able to find a better companion should they decide to leave. This is particularly problematic in abusive marriages.

- Abusers often attempt to control every aspect of their partner’s life, including material wealth, finances, and the like. They often tend to monitor their partner’s comings and goings, and give their partner very little opportunity to do things on their own.

- Abusers often change their partner’s appearance, preferring clothes and looks that appeal only to them. Abuse is a game of control and abusers often feel the need to control most aspects of their partner’s life.

As you can see, the author, Pamela Help writes in a straightforward manor. While reading this book you won't be sifting through a bunch of useless content. NO! You are going to be learning about emotional abuse through reading condensed content that is filled with wisdom.

More Helpful Ideas From This Kindle Book About Abuse
- Abusers also may be very rigid and may become uncomfortable when their partner refuses to do things that don’t fall in line with their own interests. They may react angrily and may force their partner to do what they want by using threats and manipulation.

- Abusers often exhibit aggression such as verbal aggression, insults, shaming, threatening and even physical abuse. They also use threats to manipulate their partner into doing what they want and giving them what they need, physically or psychologically.

- Abusers often minimize the emotions and feelings of their partner. Their partner eventually feels worthless. This leads to the abused person defining themselves by how their abuser sees them. They learn to become completely dependent and their abuser gains complete control in the relationship.

Tamed (The Tangled Series)In the third unforgettable book by New York Times bestselling author Emma Chase, Matthew Fisher—the best friend of Drew Evans from Tangled and Twisted—wants to settle down, but he’ll have to overcome the mistrust of the vividly unique Dee Dee Warren. Includes a bonus short story, Holy Frigging Matrimony!

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: girl meets player, they fall in love, player changes his ways.

It’s a good story. But it’s not our story. Ours is a lot more colorful.

When I met Dee, I knew right away that she was special. When she met me, she thought I was anything but special—I was exactly like every other guy who’d screwed her over and let her down. It took some time to convince her otherwise, but it turns out I can make a convincing argument when sex is at stake.

You might know where this story’s headed. But the best part isn't where we ended up.

It’s how we got there.

STEALING POWER: A powerful psychological crime thriller

STEALING POWER is easy, restoring it is hard.

Detective Chief Inspector AJ Colt has lived his life in the limelight. The charismatic star of New Scotland Yard is public relations gold. Everyone loves him. Well, almost everyone. For three years, a serial rapist has been taunting and tormenting him, sending him DVD copies of every drug facilitated rape he commits. It's been one year since he received the last DVD and the trail is stone cold dead. When a new DVD arrives out of the blue, a familiar landmark takes him away from the job and life he loves and back to his home town of Winchester. The last place on earth he wants to be.

Winchester Detective India Kane does not suffer fools gladly, and she's surrounded by them. Obsessively private, she keeps her head down, gets on with her job, and doesn't bother anybody. She likes life that way. When people bother her, things have a tendency to get messy. She's just landed her first lead case - a drug facilitated rape investigation - and doesn't take kindly to the arrogant newcomer parachuted in to snatch it from her.

The hunt is on.

But the serial rapist is just warming up. As he escalates, so does his power. And he won't stop until he's stolen it all...... even if it means bringing his own brand of terror directly to those who hunt him.

As they close in on their suspect, Colt and Kane find themselves on a direct collision course with the darkest depths of the human psyche, their own demons, and a web of secrets, lies, and deceit; spun by those they trust the most.

When their lives collide - it won't just be the victims' worlds that are torn apart.

Drug Use and AbuseDRUG USE AND ABUSE takes an interdisciplinary approach in its coverage of current drug issues. It weaves psychological, historical, cultural, social, biological, and medical perspectives -- emphasizing the idea that a drug's effects depend not only on its properties, but also on the biological and psychological characteristics of its user. This theme is highlighted throughout, and is prominent in discussions of the individual classes of drugs, as well as in the chapters on pharmacology and psychopharmacology.

The Practical Art of Suicide Assessment: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals and Substance Abuse CounselorsPenned with a compelling elegance and charm, the "Practical Art of Suicide Assessment" is brimming with clinical wisdom, enlightening case illustrations and a vibrant sense of compassion. Viewed as one of the classics in the field of mental health, and acclaimed by both beginning students and experienced clinicians alike, it describes in a step-by-step fashion exactly how to make a sound suicide assessment. Dr. Shea explores the causes of suicidal ideation as well as the nuances of risk actors, protective factors, and the complexities of the clinical formulation of risk. He skillfully integrates all of this information for the reader by using real-life case examples and addressing daunting clinical challenges head-on such as assessing suicide risk with clients coping with borderline personality disorder or psychotic process. In addition Dr. Shea brings to life the highly acclaimed interview strategy for uncovering suicidal ideation, planning, behavior and intent the "Chronological Assessment of Suicide Events (CASE Approach)". Dr. Shea, the originator of the CASE Approach, shows exactly how to creatively and flexibly use its innovative interviewing techniques to match the unique needs of every client. The CASE Approach has been described by the noted suicidologist and past President of the American Association of Suicidology, David Jobes, Ph.D. as follows: "The CASE Approach moves the clinician almost imperceptibly into the secret internal workings of the mind and soul of the patient tormented by suicidal ideation. I believe that the CASE Approach is a remarkable conceptual and clinical contribution to the field of suicidology. It should be taught to any front-line clinician. It has the power to meaningfully save lives." Dr. Shea concludes the book with a no-nonsense approach to documenting a suicide risk assessment that can both help to save a client's life as well as keep the clinician out of court. Respected across the globe, the Practical Art of Suicide Assessment has been translated into languages as diverse as French and Japanese. Mental Health Presses is pleased to re-issue this classic in contemporary suicide prevention (originally published in 2002).

Hush: Moving From Silence to Healing After Childhood Sexual Abuse

Childhood sexual abuse is running rampant, yet it's the best kept secret in our nation today. Its victims grow into adulthood with their little child's heart trapped in the pain and torment of their past. Nicole Braddock Bromley shares her own story and the steps to moving from silence to healing. Hush exposes the harsh realities of childhood abuse, explains the pain it causes, examines the false beliefs it creates, and empowers survivors to begin a personal journey toward healing by breaking the silence.

With words of understanding and comfort, Nicole tells the real-life stories of those whose voices would otherwise never be heard. She is straightforward enough to pierce the hearts of those in a survivor's circle of influence, yet careful to tread lightly on what could be tender words.

No Visible Wounds: Identifying Non-Physical Abuse of Women by Their MenDOES YOUR PARTNER . . .
* have sudden outbursts of anger or rage?
* become jealous without reason?
* prevent you from seeing friends and family?
* deny you access to family assets such as bank accounts, credit cards, or the car?
* control all finances and force you to account for what you spend?
* insult you or call you derogatory names?
* humiliate you in front of your children?
* turn minor incidents into major arguments?
If you or someone you know can answer "yes" to the questions above, chances are you are suffering from nonphysical battering--controlling, tyrannical behavior that is just as damaging to a woman's self-esteem as a broken bone or a black eye. An experienced counselor who works with abused women, Mary Susan Miller breaks the silence that surrounds this devastating form of domestic violence. She identifies the many types of nonphysical abuse verbal, emotional, psychological, social, and economic--and explores why this outrageous treatment of women continues unabated in our society.
Dr. Miller also shares the stories of many survivors who have escaped their abusive relationships. Their experiences--with law enforcement, the legal system, and the community itself--can help prepare any woman for the decision of whether to stay or leave the relationship. And if she decides to go, Dr. Miller offers sound guidelines on how to protect herself and her children, since a woman's decision to leave is usually the time she is in the most danger from her abuser.
Finally, Dr. Miller inspires hope: You can break free of the nightmare of nonphysical battering and heal, once again engaging in a life of integrity, dignity, and peace.

Fallen Men: A Story of Three Priests. A young priest's life spirals out of control when long-submerged memories of childhood abuse begin to surface. He seeks solace in a friendship with a beautiful seventeen-year-old-choir girl but this leads to a doomed love affair that ends in disaster. Fallen Men touches on some dark themes but it is ultimately a novel of redemption. It has won the Amazon IDB Award in January, 2013.

Some significant critics have this to say about the book:

"Great story…I could not put it down when I got to the second half. Well written, great characters. The psychological aspects are key.” Stephen Frankini, Publisher, Tumblar House Books.

"O’Hare has a pleasant, easy-to-read writing style. I have written five books and edited five others, so I realize the hard work and effort that go into writing a full length novel...There are aspects of this book that I thoroughly appreciated. The topic of sexual abuse is dealt with sensitively. There are no attention-seeking graphic descriptions. The flashbacks of child sex abuse and the depictions of the depression, guilt and breakdown after a rushed abortion are particularly well done. I found the court sequences to be believable and compelling. This is definitely an author with natural storytelling ability."
Ellen Gable Hrkach, Reviewer, Catholic Fiction

“A story that is both current and gripping. It has distinctive and credible dialogue and beautifully forged characters. It is clear that the writer is a keen observer of human nature. I genuinely enjoyed reading this book.” John Anthony, Publisher, Pink Cloud.

Just Beneath the Surface, I
"His fingertips began apologizing, grazing over my cheeks. He closed his eyes and stepped toward me until our bodies touched. He kept walking toward me until we were both against the wall. He then buried his face in my blouse as he began to weep. 'I'm so sorry,' he whimpered. 'Do you understand me? I'm so, so sorry.' He held my face in his hands. My heart pounded. My chest hurt. How could I go? But how could I possibly stay?"

When Kendall Berkely takes a look in the mirror, she not only desperately wants to run away from the stranger staring back at her, she also knows that her days are numbered. She can feel it in her bones, and has the bruises to prove it. To make matters worse, Kendall will soon discover that her seventeen year old daughter, Diamond is on a path nearly just as dangerous.

After the demise of the family unit she once knew, a distracted mother, and being forced to accept a new stepfather, Diamond finds herself knee deep in a multitude of mistakes. When Diamond finds herself more lonely than ever before, she crosses paths with Bobby Lidell, a teacher’s aide with a dark side ..

But what is lurking in the shadows will not stop until a vow has been kept; what is lurking just beneath the surface will come seeking revenge.

In "Drug and Alcohol Abuse", Dr. William Richard Miller demonstrates his approach to treating clients with problems involving substance abuse. Drug and alcohol abuse are a common presenting problem in therapy, second only to depression, so it benefits therapists to have an approach ready for this issue. Dr. Miller uses motivational interviewing, a Rogerian technique designed to increase a client's sense that he or she is capable of handling the problems they confront. In this session, Dr. Miller works with a woman who has been in and out of recovery for use of various substances who is aiming toward reducing her substance use. By reflectively listening and pointing out her strengths, Dr. Miller guides the client toward recognizing other interests in her life with which she can replace drug and alcohol use.

The WizardLess raunchy than Tommy and more conventional than Tron, The Wizard also revolves around gaming. There's even a Bridges on board. In Tron it was Jeff, in The Wizard it's Beau. As opposed to the rock opera’s pinball-playing "deaf, dumb, and blind kid," however, quasi-catatonic Jimmy (Luke Edwards) is a video game wiz. While the nine-year-old lives with his mother, half-brothers Corey (Fred Savage, circa The Wonder Years) and Nick (Christian Slater, fresh from Heathers) live with their father, Sam (Bridges). When Jimmy, who recently lost his sister, is placed in a home, Corey busts him out for a trip to California. (Today, Jimmy's condition would be labeled post-traumatic stress disorder.) As they're leaving Utah, they join forces with gaming enthusiast Haley (Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis), who suggests LA's National Video Game Championships. So, off they go by foot, skateboard, and the kindness of strangers. Sam, Nick, and obnoxious bounty hunter Putnam (Will Seltzer) are close behind. The outcome may be a foregone conclusion--the fractured family makes their peace--but The Wizard still offers a nostalgic, Nintendo-laden look at 1980s gamer culture (Power Glove, Super Mario Bros. 3, etc.). Plus, sharp-eyed viewers will spot Toby Maguire milling around before the showdown at Universal Studios Theme Park. If not for the hitchhiking, gambling, and reckless automotive destruction--after Putnam takes a knife to Sam's tires, Sam smashes his headlights with a shovel--the movie would be appropriate for all ages. In other words, it earns its PG rating. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Painful SecretsDawn Cottrell (Peterson) seems like a typical sixteen-year-old girl, but she has a very dangerous secret. Unable to express her true feelings, whenever Dawn is upset she grabs a knife and cuts herself. Her mother's greatest fear (Young) is that she may one day kill herself. A talented artist Dawn is without friends and relies heavily on her dysfunctional family for support. But her parents have troubles of their own. Dawn discover a potential friend when another art student Lorraine (Taylor Stanley) takes interest in Dawn. Lorraine too is lonely and from a troubled home, she visits a therapist on a regular basis, Dr. Parella (Perlman), but Dawn is resistant to the idea of professional help. After yet another cut, Dawn is rushed to a hospital where the staff insists she see a psychiatrist. Dawn requests it be Dr. Parella, who identifies the disorder and begins therapy. Things get progressively worse in Dawn's home, climaxing at a time when Lorraine too is hospitalized due to abuse in her own home. When Dawn's mom denies her a visit, she leaves in the middle of the night with dire consequences. It is estimated that one in two hundred girls in the US cut themselves, a disorder diagnosed as an attempt to control emotional pain by inflicting physical pain, a condition with no clear solution but mounting unanswered questions.

A Clockwork Orange [HD DVD]Stanley Kubrick's striking visual interpretation of Anthony Burgess's famous novel is a masterpiece. Malcolm McDowell delivers a clever, tongue-in-cheek performance as Alex, the leader of a quartet of droogs, a vicious group of young hoodlums who spend their nights stealing cars, fighting rival gangs, breaking into people's homes, and raping women. While other directors would simply exploit the violent elements of such a film without subtext, Kubrick maintains Burgess's dark, satirical social commentary. We watch Alex transform from a free-roaming miscreant into a convict used in a government experiment that attempts to reform criminals through an unorthodox new medical treatment. The catch, of course, is that this therapy may be nothing better than a quick cure-all for a society plagued by rampant crime. A Clockwork Orange works on many levels--visual, social, political, and sexual--and is one of the few films that hold up under repeated viewings. Kubrick not only presents colorfully arresting images, he also stylizes the film by utilizing classical music (and Wendy Carlos's electronic classical work) to underscore the violent scenes, which even today are disturbing in their display of sheer nihilism. Ironically, many fans of the film have missed that point, sadly being entertained by its brutality rather than being repulsed by it. --Bryan Reesman

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? After his successful direction of the Broadway hits Barefoot in the Park and The Odd Couple, Mike Nichols made his filmmaking debut with this outstanding and still-powerful screen adaptation (by Ernest Lehman) of Edward Albee's taboo-shattering play. In their fourth film together (and by far their finest), Richard Burton and Oscar winner Elizabeth Taylor play a New England couple whose marriage hangs by a thin thread of self-deception, vicious verbal jousting, and embittered mutual need. George Segal and Sandy Dennis (who also won an Oscar) play the younger, unsuspecting couple who awkwardly witness the devastating rivalry of their hosts. Handling adult themes with intelligence and forceful dramatic impact, this was the film that finally shattered Hollywood's self-censoring Production Code with commercially successful results. The DVD features an insightful commentary track by Haskell Wexler, whose black-and-white cinematography deservedly won an Academy Award. --Jeff Shannon

Postcards from AmericaThis avant garde film is based on two angry autobiographical books by David Wojnarowicz: Close to the Knives and Memories That Smell Like Gasoline. Wojnarowicz, a noted performance artist, died of AIDS . The film examines three sides of his life. The first looks at his suburban childhood and the abuse he suffered at his alcoholic father's violent hand. The second chronicles his experiences as an teen-age street hustler and criminal in New York, and the third section, which is highly abstract, follows the adult Dave as he wanders through a dangerous desert. Once these identities are established, chronology is scattered to the winds, and the three ages of David play up to and comment on each other. The work of Wojnarowicz is also represented in Knud Vesterkov's film, By The Dawn's Early Light. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

The PrisonerTwo legendary actors at the height of their careers face off in a film so controversial that both the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals banned it. Following World War II, a strong-willed cardinal (Academy Award winner Alec Guinness, 1957 Best Actor, THE BRIDGE OVER RIVER KWAI) is arrested as a traitor to the state. His will is strong, but so is that of his inquisitor (Jack Hawkins), a seemingly benevolent man who uses oily charm to lure the cardinal into speaking freely. The interrogator eventually resorts to false evidence, dirty tricks and cruelty. Months pass, and the cardinal's spirit seems impossible to break. As the interviews become increasingly hostile, the captors turn to the last bastion of the immorally powerful: torture. Eventually the cardinal is exploited and destroyed. A tale for all times, all beliefs, and once witnessed, impossible to forget. THE PRISONER is a bold example of corruption, power and faith.

Abuse: Pursuing WholenessDr. Coyle perceives sexual/ physical/emotional abuse to be the most extreme of all human violence and suffering. This comprehensive, yet highly compacted bio-psycho-social approach to the resolution of abuse issues combines the building or rebuilding of the self (through coordination with the Self-esteem and Goal-Setting Track) with a variety of coping resources needed for dealing with multiple traumas and betrayals. He specifically and directly addresses the losses, anger, trauma, assertiveness/boundary difficulties, and other challenges resulting from abuse.

Abuse affects fundamental developmental issues in contrast to trauma, which often more simply occurs following stable and expected development. Abuse destabilizes and threatens the foundations of personal development as well as inflicting trauma, making the educational approach to abuse a delicate and involved topic. Its complexity and the power of this track clearly require consultation with a therapist in collaboration with this programmed approach. The Self-Esteem and Goal Setting Track is highly recommended prior to this track. Additionally, because addictions are common among individuals who have been previously abused, attention to addictions issues, addressed in the Addictions Track may also be necessary.

It is thought in our society that a woman can leave an abusive relationship at any time. However the women in this film prove the contrary. They were under the age of 24 isolated from their families and had virtually no money. They all reached a point where there was a final beating in which that survival instinct prevailed. In these final moments they snapped and killed. Mockingbird Don't SingFrom the age of one and a half to thirteen, Katie, was imprisoned by her parents. Locked in a room, tied and immobile, bound to a "potty-chair", Katie endured years of isolated silence punctuated by brutality. When Katie’s case finally came to public attention she was moved to a hospital in Los Angeles, where it was discovered she had never been taught to speak. Katie was an anomaly, a modern day Wild Child. Medical and psychological doctors descended on the girl in droves, often with selfish motivations in this heart-breaking story. With stunning care to detail Mockingbird Don’t Sing tells Katie’s story of imprisonment, discovery and her difficult road to joining the human family as a beautiful young woman.

Prisoners of War: Living Casualties of WarPrisoners of war have been a harsh reality of war since Neolithic people first encountered the brutal act of making war. Though a typical, inescapable truth of war the brutality and wanton disregard for human dignity and compassion remains a surprise to people across the world. Table of Contents: (1) *Warning: GRAPHIC Material* This is footage of the remains of the Korean War prisoner of war (POW) camps where many soldiers met a tragically brutal death. In "Korean War POW Atrocity," American soldiers examine the graveyard locations as open graves and buried soldiers are shown - 5 Minutes (1950s) (2) A dramatic, historic, account of the sudden and mysterious demise of more that 20,000 Polish soldiers in the winter of 1939, known as the, 'Katyn Massacre,' sets the stage for "Katyn." The mystery of what happened to thousands of Polish nationals, officers, and reservists in the forest of Katyn, survivors of the massacre claim, can be answered by the Russian government. - 11 Minutes (1976) (3) Torture has long been a brutal method for extracting confessions and information from a detainee. Psychological torture is no better than the physical kind and can often break a prisoner quicker. "I Am Not Alone," documents a former Moscow Prison inmate's story of survival and through reenactments shows the psychological warfare waged on him to get a confession. - 26 Minutes (1956)

The General's DaughterThere's the right way, the wrong way and the Army way. But there's no way military investigator Paul Brenner (John Travolta) is going to participate in a cover-up when Fort MacCallum officials try to hide the motive behind the murder of a beautiful female officer. Travolta's magnetic performance sparks this riveting thriller from the director of Con Air and the producer of The Hunt for Red October. Madeleine Stowe plays Brenner's co-investigator and former flame. And James Cromwell, Timothy Hutton, Clarence Williams III and James Woods are among the suspects in this "steamy game of cat and mouse that will keep you guessing until the surprising explosive ending." --Sandie Newton, CBS-TV.

Dirty HabitA crack-addicted prostitute and a nun get stuck on an elevator. One is going to, one is coming from, a meeting with a killer.

In a seedy hotel, battered prostitute Leslie (Kirsty Hinchcliffe) flees the scene of a crime only to get trapped on the elevator with young Sister Amelia (Reagan Dale Neis). When no one responds to their cries for help, they reluctantly turn to each other. Leslie starts smoking crack and goes from standoffish, to giddy, to ferociously hostile at the drop of a hat. The unlucky sister learns more than she wants about the violent crime Leslie has just perpetrated. Tensions mount as Leslie pries into Sister Amelia's private affairs and they discover a shared secret that binds them together in a macabre and surreal plot involving a talking handbag and a Catholic bishop (Sam Anderson).

It's a dark, hallucinatory ride with powerful performances and supernatural thrills that goes straight to the heart of a girl on her way to Hell.

Invisible Child Abuse Invisible Child Abuse (Individual Version)Emotional child abuse is frequently overlooked in our focus on physical and sexual abuse, often invisible to those both outside and inside the family. However, the damage that emotional child abuse can inflict has severe impact later in life on a person's self-esteem, relationships, and career. In this film, actual group participants discuss how despite their successes they continue to treat themselves the way they were treated as children, and continually struggle with the ghosts of their childhood. In powerful footage, men and women discuss painful incidences, and uncover the legacy of emotional child abuse that often spans multiple generations. Featured therapist Dr. Robert Firestone works with these group participants to give them voice to the abuse they experienced, as well as to the child that couldn't then fight back. From watching this video, you'll learn: + How childhood emotional abuse is kept hidden, how it can have a damaging impact later in life, and how its legacy can span many generations. + What emotional child abuse looks like from many different perspectives and experiences. + How to give voice to childhood emotional abuse, and increase one's compassion in order to move beyond it. Real Life Teens: Emotional AbuseReal Life Teens is an unbiased and realistic look from the perspective of teens, at the wide variety of issues teens face today featuring young teenagers telling their real stories, in their own words. The series discusses significant issues in adolescent society and cuts through many barriers with its honest and relevant advice and information. Many teens suffer emotional abuse from their peers, family and other trusted adults. Emotional abuse can be difficult to define as there may not be physical signs, however it is clear that this form of destructive behavior is based on power and control. Emotional abuse can affect a student's self-esteem and greatly impair psychological development and social interaction. It can manifest itself in social withdrawal, severe anxiety, fearfulness, depression, physical complaints, substance abuse and the inability to feel and express emotions appropriately. Emotional abuse can occur when anger goes too far or when parents or teens in relationships constantly criticize and threaten resulting in damage to self-esteem and feelings of self-worth. In this program, Teens discuss their experiences with emotional abuse, how they recognize it and the effect and consequences it has now and can have on teens throughout their lives. Interspersed with the Teen discussions are valuable insights and guidance from clinical psychologist Dr Deborah Cooper. Dr Deborah Cooper is internationally known and a highly respected expert on relationships and personal growth. Dr. Cooper is a State License Marriage Family Child Counselor (MFCC) and holds a State Teaching Credential - Psychology and Hypnosis.

Mental Health: History of PsychiatryTreating the mind is a tricky thing to do. Psychiatric practices have evolved with new understanding of the mind and the development of science. "Psychiatry Treatment," explores the history of psychiatric facilities and the consequent cruel treatment of patients in them, and how the government once viewed stress disorders. It showcases the mind as an evolving, complex, part of the human body susceptible to damage, pain, and even more complex disorders. Outdated treatment practices are shown and serve as a contrast to the reactions of doctors in today's field of mental health. Table of Contents: (1) The responsibilities, demands, and treatment of stress, falls directly under the operation of the Battalion medical officer. "Combat psychiatry - The Battalion Medical Officer," dissects treatment of stress and the role of the medical officer, with an emphasis on preventing manpower losses in a time of war. (1954) -36 Minutes (2) The treatment of mentally insane patients in the medical profession has long been a source of concern to human rights activists. Treatments they have undergone have often been cruel and alarmingly inhumane. "Restoration of Sanity," is a promise of better treatment and understanding, with the patients being viewed as humans with real problems and maladies. The history of psychology and psychiatry build upon the various mental health diseases presented and their consequent treatments. Note: Originally produced in Russian, with Russian titles and English narration. (1957) -19 Minutes Made in America

Abuse: Pursuing Wholeness-Individual Use DVD Copy*Dr.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Two-Disc Special Edition)Edward Albee's ground-breaking play is brought to the big screen by Mike Nichols in his directing debut. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor star as a failed University professor and his acerbic, shrewish wife. Taking place over the course of a social evening with a younger couple, George and Martha spar and verbally abuse each other in language not heard in American films at that time. Amazingly, the film passed the censor board at the time and began the fall of standards that had shackled Hollywood for decades. A brilliant film; one not to be missed. 1970's Hippie Culture and Psychology on Film: Social Seminar Changing DVD (1971)This 1971 film, produced by UCLA's Extension Media Center for the National Institute of Mental Health, attempts to navigate the turbulent social waters of hippie culture, focusing on drug usage, alternative lifestyles, and common stereotypes of the time. The film gives an unbiased overview of the challenges faced by children of the '60's, who had to deal with a confusing array of social unrest, moral uncertainty, and changing lifestyles. It follows the story of a man in his thirties who has lost control of his life, and that of his family, while living the "hippie" lifestyle. Classic 70's lingo is also discussed, and terms such as "hardhat," "square," and "hippie" are defined.  Overall, this is a wonderful film about the hippie phenomenon.

A Clockwork Orange [Blu-ray]Stanley Kubrick's striking visual interpretation of Anthony Burgess's famous novel is a masterpiece.
