No child is should go up in a home where they live in fear. There are too many reports of child abuse. The number of child abuse cases are tremendous. Especially when you take into consideration that 2,700 children will be abused today. Another 2,700 will be abused tomorrow and the next day and the next day. In one day, three children will die of abuse. These children will never make it to their fifth birthday.

Every 10 seconds there is a report of child abuse. An estimated 906,000 children were victims of some form of child abuse in 2003 alone. The problem is that the abuse is happening, but the authorities are doing little to help prevent it. Most kids will not tell that they are being abused. They have been told by the abuser that he/she will kill them or their siblings or the rest of their family.

These children are also afraid that they will get worse abuse if they tell someone. A child can tell you that everything is fine. That is when we need to look at the signs and effects of child abuse. These children maybe telling us that they are being abused in a nonverbal way. Many of these cases were reported to the police and to the Departments of Children and Family Services. While the initial report may have been investigated, but Department of Children and Family Services could not find enough evidence to remove the children from the homes.

These children ultimately pay the price. There are four main forms of child abuse. They are physical, emotional, neglect, and sexual. The most common form of abuse is neglect. When a child is being sexually abused more than likely they are being physically abused as well. No form of child abuse is the child's fault. All forms of child abuse are detrimental to the child's physical, social, mental, and psychological development.

Recently in the news, a 13 year old girl is being charged for shooting her father to death. This girls suffered physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her father for years. Her brother also suffered the same abuse at the hands of her father. The authorities were called and did nothing to prevent any more abuse from happening to these two children. She shot her father in the face knowing that it was the only way to get out of this violent situation.

Another case that recently hit the new was a 3 year was raped by her uncle. This girls uncle has a history of sexual abuse. He was living in the same house as the 3 year old and injured her so bad that she had to be hospitalized. Her mother found her abused and bleeding in his room. If the authorities do not find significant evidence on the first visit, then maybe they should be putting surveillance cameras or digital room recorders in the home.

These surveillance cameras or digital room recorders would give them the proof. Closing the case after the first visit is not an option. They may need to visit the home unannounced a couple of times to get a true picture of what is going on. We have all heard of child abuse cases that we have heard about on the news. When we hear the news of a child dying or being seriously injured because of abuse, we are appalled. We want to know where the authorities were in this case and how this child slipped through the cracks.

The public has all these questions for the authorities when this happens but no answers from them. The public then drops these questions when those same authorities say that they are investigating the abuse and what led the abuse to get so bad that it winds up in serious injury or death to the child. It is time we start protecting all children and asking these questions. Do not let another child slip through the cracks of our system.

I am a man of 54 years now. But despite seeing so many things in my life and experiencing all the emotions, I feel hurt when I am verbally abused. It is not that verbal abuse does not hurt. Some people think that verbal abuse can be easily forgotten and one may go forward. Yes, one goes forward but the scars of the wound inflicted by the verbal abuse go along with many of us. How about a child?

A child can be verbally abused in many ways. Children abusing each other with name calling etc. are common. But worse is verbal abuse by elders. Parents, relatives and teachers form part of this group in a child's life. Many parents have set ideas about how a child should behave. If the child does not behave that away, the parents do not explain them the right way but make fun of them verbally. If such fun is made in presence of others the child's psyche is hurt. The hurt may look very innocent but that makes a child feel insecure about themselves. The children lose faith in their own abilities. They learn wrong methods of behavior. I have seen some parents who verbally abuse their child in presence of the teacher. All the complaints they have about the child are made right in the presence of the teacher. This is a verbal thrashing. Somehow because the child cannot hit back, it is taken as granted by many adults that children can be verbally abused without hurting them. Adults feel good after verbally abusing them and feel that they know how to properly train a child. The facts are contrary. The child feels humiliated.

Whenever we talk to a child, we should put ourselves in their shoes and first think about how that will affect the child. Only after we are sure, we should speak to a child about sensitive issues. Verbally abusing a child is a crime in law, and also a bigger crime in the scheme of God.

If there is a living hell for a child, it is sexual abuse. Most of the children are very ignorant about sex and their own body. For them there is nothing like private parts. As they grow up they begin understanding. But many children are abused before they come to understand anything about sex. To abuse a child sexually is a heinous crime. You never know when the child may be abused sexually unless you know where your child is and with who? It is very important to know about the whereabouts of the child and the people with them.

I do not want to go into the details of what a child feels after sexual abuse. It will suffice to say that the child may develop life long sexual and mental problems. The child may carry the weight of unknown pain for all the life. To make sure that your child is not sexually abused always look for some factors. if anybody shows undue interest in your child, be careful. Do not ignore even the most near and dear ones. If someone tries to take care of your child without your request or shows any eagerness, be vigilant. Always keep this question in your mind- why this person has so much interest for my child. All the people are not abusers, but it will certainly be safe if you are vigilant.

Look for signs in your child if anytime you suspect something. Many children do not report sexual abuse even to their parents. If the child begins showing unusual behavior such as change in appetite, bed wetting, difficulty in sleeping, afraid, or any such sign that you see should make you ask your child about why? Please teach your children about their private parts and tell them that if anybody tries to touch them there, they should immediately tell you about that. As a parent your child needs your protection. A single incident may leave long shadows on your child. Please protect your child.

Child train techniques are ready to be required and which ones are careful acceptable? these days, there is truly a very thin line between abuse and educate and other thing. And also some parents believing that what constitutes child abuse today ridiculously uncalled for when compared to the methods used by earlier generations, but you cant do nothing the law isthe law. Consistency is the key to be succful discpline and not at all spank themhard enugh that they are going to feel it later. whenever you discipline your kid is good and also it will show them the righ way to be good kids. Discipline for kids can be a hard subject,For ever and a day spank the kid only on the kid's clothed bottom and only with your open hand, and opinions vary across quite a lot of lines of reasoning. when discipline kids there are many thing and also theories.

This is how the discipline method works: One direction or instructions are given to the child by the parent, and the child dont wanna go along the instructions, you must say that a one then that a two and a three and result in time out in your room.

The parental discipline and kid aggression have focued primrily on control as a case and aggression as an outcome. in the addition to the pathway from discipline to aggression. How to discipline a preschool child is key questionto ask. That some of the main points to remember around a preschooler are that first the preschooler is a kid whose powers of reason and kindness have not developed fully. If your relationship with your kid has be converted into a power struggle,When discipline doesn't seem to be working for your family, you want to step back and look again at the problem. The first step is to learn what is normal actions for your child's age and stage of development. planning for good behavior, listening to your child, holding kind meetings, .

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism gives some practical strategies for bringing up the subject of alcohol use with your child:
# Encourage conversation. Encourage your child to talk about whatever interests him or her. Listen without interruption and give your child a chance to teach you something new. Your active listening to your child’s enthusiasms paves the way for conversations about topics that concern you.
# Ask open-ended questions. Encourage your teen to tell you how he or she thinks and feels about the issue you’re discussing. Avoid questions that have a simple “yes” or “no” answer.
# Control your emotions. If you hear something you don’t like, try not to respond with anger. Instead, take a few deep breaths and acknowledge your feelings in a constructive way.
# Make every conversation a “win-win” experience. Don’t lecture or try to “score points” on your teen by showing how he or she is wrong. If you show respect for your child’s viewpoint, he or she will be more likely to listen to and respect yours.
# Draw the line. Set clear, realistic expectations for your child’s behavior. Establish appropriate consequences for breaking rules and consistently enforce them.
# Offer acceptance. Make sure your teen knows that you appreciate his or her efforts as well as accomplishments. Avoid hurtful teasing or criticism.
# Understand that your child is growing up. This doesn’t mean a hands-off attitude. But as you guide your child’s behavior, also make an effort to respect his or her growing need for independence and privacy.
Drug abuse used to be considered a moral failing, with addicts written off as willful and incorrigible. Today, teen drug abuse is more likely to be seen as a physiological disorder, a disease that can be treated and eventually conquered. Approaches to treatment for drug abuse vary, but people in treatment all learn how to change their behavior and reduce their cravings. Relapses are common, but people who stick with drug addiction treatment and can reclaim healthy, productive lives.
Drug addiction certainly can be treated. While drug abuse used to be viewed as being, at best, a weak, flawed person’s response to life’s pressures and temptations, today most professionals who work with teen drug addiction consider it a medical condition, on the same plane as diabetes or heart disease. And just as someone with diabetes or heart disease has to institute lifestyle changes and take medications, teens in treatment for drug addiction learn behavioral changes and often take medications as part of their treatment regimen. This change in attitude has helped boost hope for many teens and their families.
In fact, one of the reasons drug abuse is so prevalent is that many folks who need treatment for drug abuse don’t get it. The U.S. Department of Labor posted a report recently of one study showing that 47 percent of men and 41 percent of women in need of treatment for abuse of illicit drugs are not treated. Much of this gap between need and actual treatment comes from inadequate funding for drug abuse treatment and inadequate education about drugs and drug treatment.
There are many ways in which drug and alcohol addiction can be treated, and that treatment can lead to permanent recovery if the person fighting the addiction makes a real commitment to a treatment program and sticks with it. According to several studies, drug treatment reduces drug use by 40 to 60 percent, but, typically, only for people who stay in treatment for three months or longer. Treatment for drug and alcohol abuse is a long process that involves not only recovery from the physical effects of substance abuse but therapy that allows drug abusers to understand the psychological and social roots of their addictions and learn new ways of coping. As much as they need to stop using, they also need to recognize the emotional triggers that can cause them to start using again. That’s why it’s important to choose the treatment program that best serves the individual needs of the recovering addict.

Abuse from People Children Know
n
nParents, teachers and caregivers should be ware that 80% of the sexual molestation that occurs is from family members or people the children know (friends of the family, a siblings’ friend, etc.) which is not to minimize the fact of stranger danger.
n
nStatistics also are available to show that 1 in 6 adolescent boys will be molested by someone they know.
n
nChildren need to be aware of boundaries and that they are to protect us; our body is a boundary and must not be violated – by anyone in any way, shape or form.
n
nIt is extremely important that adults have conversations with the children to help them protect their boundaries, to say “STOP” when someone is violating any of their boundaries.
n
nChildren know when they feel “ishy”, when they are being touched in a way that is uncomfortable and they need to know that it’s all right to talk about it and report it.
n
nIf this occurs you child must know that it’s OK to scream “get away”, “don’t touch me” or “help” – you must give your child the tools to not be abused.
n
nYour child depends on you for his/her safety.

Parents Are The Most Important Teachers
n
nParents should be asking how important they are in their child’s life in establishing healthy boundaries.
n
n Parents are the first and most important teachers a child has.
n
n A child has to develop a sense of trust with the parents and know that he/she is going to be kept safe.
n
n Structuring healthy boundaries with their child from birth is critical. Children learn from observing and if they are touched in a respectful and appropriate way that’s what they learn. Speaking in a calm and reassuring voice is also important. A child has to feel safe in order to learn healthy boundaries.
n
n Children expect to be protected by their parents and if a child doesn’t feel any sense of safety and protection then there is not going to be any trust development.
n
n If there is no trust on a child’s part that a parent will protect them then the child very likely will not share any abuse that’s happening, whether it’s molestation, bullying, name calling or physical abuse.
n
n Children who do not have a clear understanding of boundaries are often victims of abuse and if there’s no safe family member to confide in, the abused often becomes an abuser himself because it gives him/her power in his own right.
n
n If you’d like to order the book Boundaries and receive the free pamphlet I’ve written “The A to Zs of teaching young children” please go to www.ladaps.net and click on Boundaries.
n
n For more information go to http://erasechildabuse.com
n
n If you spot the reason for the behavior it would be wise to take action immediately.
n
n Your child depends on you for his/her safety.

How to Protect Your Child From Abuse
n
nParents should be asking how they can protect their children from child abuse from people they know.
n
n We are all concerned about “stranger danger” with good cause but facts show that molestation and sexual abuse occur more frequently from people we and our children know. No one likes to think of that but it happens.
n
n It is critical that children understand that boundaries are to protect us. You can begin by talking about the walls and the roof and asking if your child knows what they protect us from. Engage your child in a conversation about other boundaries they can identify.
n
n Once you think your child has an understanding of boundaries you can proceed to talking about good body boundaries. Your child’s body is a boundary.
n
n Begin by asking your child if hugs make him/her feel good, if holding hands make him/her feel good. And really listen to the answer.
n
n Ask if your child can think of something that doesn’t make him/her feel good. I had a great uncle Alex who loved to pick me up and twirl me around and them rub his whiskers on my face. Now when you’re little your skin is really sensitive and I would walk around for hours with a red, sore face; of course he thought it was funny and so did the other “grownups” but that really is abusive. As a result I would hide from him whenever I could.
n
n It’s important that our children know we will step in and stop something that is abusive – no matter what level or what type.

Manners make a person to look different from the other. Manner means that respect the other. Today Parent is very conscious about to teach Good manners to their children. So they hire a teacher to teach their children good manner but this all things which you are doing to make a perfect good and well-mannered children is not good. Because if you want your children have a Good manner then you have to make a practice to your child to say “Sorry” “Thanks” etc.

Parent always want that their children have Good Manner but they never think that I teach him some Good Things. Today’s every parent is busy in their work and children in under eyes of baby sitter. She can’t make your child perfect because she is doing her Job she takes your child as her work.

Here are some Tips to make Good and Well-Mannered Child

1. Firstly you have to help your child to make a list of Good Manners in their mind. Then only your child is a good mannered. Not pressurize your children to learn anything. Small children’s are always curies to learn different things.
2. You can also do one thing go library and select some interesting story book and read it in front of your child after dinner time. And also at the end of the story please tell the moral of the story because moral only make your children manner good. It learns things from the story moral.
3. If your Child is in school age then you can teach your child by some good books. Read it for your children or you can also make your child to read it. It is also good for your children. Also make a good practice of writing, reading, drawing etc. It makes your child practice and also teaches some Good Manners.
4. Also teach some body language to your Child. Ex-if you want to say your child keep quit then you put your finger on your mouth your child should understand your body language. It makes a good habit to your Child.
5. After preparing a Good list in your children mind if you listen any abuse word from the mouth of your child please don’t take it in laugh. Please remind your child don’t use this type of abuse words or try to delete this type of abuse words from the mind of your children.
6. If you teach in nice way then perfectly your children will be a Good and well-mannered but if you take it lightly then there is a chance that it may happen opposite also.

So, care regularly to your child and teach everything which you want to under your eyes if you put your child under baby sitter then it beat your child to teach it is not good for children. Children can learn everything but the way of teaching is Good and lovely. Children’s are always hunger of Love and we know that only one person can understand that thing mom. So children learn Good manners from their moms. So it is a responsibility of every mother in this world teach Good manner to their Child.

Healing The Child Within: Discovery and Recovery for Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families

Have you ever heard of your inner child? Well, this is the classic book that started it all.

In 1987, Charlie Whitfield's breakthrough concept of the child within—that part of us which is truly alive, energetic, creative and fulfilled—launched the inner child movement. Healing the Child Within describes how the inner child is lost to trauma and loss, and how by recovering it, we can heal the fear, confusion and unhappiness of adult life.

Eighteen years and more than a million copies sold later, Healing the Child Within is a perennial selling classic in the field of psychology. And it is even more timely today than it was in 1987. Recent brain research, particularly on the effects of trauma on the brain of developing children, has supported Whitfield's intuitive understanding as a psychiatrist.

I've Always Known (Child Abuse) I've Always Known is the Un-Edited version of The Child He Abused. This is the raw version of this book when first written. I used an hidden name out of fear. Child Abuse is finally coming into full view of the American public, children are being heard, our stories told, and finally, some one is listening. I wrote this book for every child that has cried out in the darkness and was not heard, for evey child who told and was not beleived. This is my story, my life, these are the hardships I lived and believed normal, normal because no one would listen.
I was abused to the point I wanted to kill myself, at the age of nine, I looked up into the heavens and asked God to take me. Here, on these pages was the life of a child abused.
This text has not been edited, please forgive typing and poor grammer as these are taken directly from my notes as a child, from the pages of a bible where I hide my existance, the events that I could tell no one else. You may find "there" instead of their", "here" instead of hear. I left these unchanged to note that as an abused child, i didn't have time for grammar, I was too busy trying to stay alive.
I was lucky I got out, my baby brother didn't.

Child Sexual Abuse: Disclosure, Delay, and Denial This volume provides the first rigorous assessment of the research relating to the disclosure of childhood sexual abuse, along with the practical and policy implications of the findings. Leading researchers and practitioners from diverse and international backgrounds offer critical commentary on these previously unpublished findings gathered from both field and laboratory research. Cross-cultural, clinical, and multi-disciplinary perspectives are provided. The goal is to learn more about why children frequently remain silent about their abuse, deny it, or if they do disclose, do so belatedly and incompletely, often recanting their allegations over time.

The book opens with a close examination of the existing literature on disclosure and the difficulties in conducting such research. It then examines the individual and contextual factors that determine whether, when, and how childhood sexual abuse is disclosed. This portion reviews how the interview techniques have a profound impact on disclosure patterns. Details of how reluctant children are interviewed are included. The third section examines the broader implications of disclosure for the child, family and peers, and for the suspect. Child Sexual Abuse examines how the interview strategies influence how, when, or if children disclose abuse, by examining both domestic and international data and by analyzing detailed interviews with children.

Child Sexual Abuse is for researchers and practitioners from child, forensic, and clinical psychology, social work, and all legal professionals who need to understand this crime.

When the Piano Stops: A Memoir of Healing from Sexual Abuse
Catherine McCall appeared to have all an American girl could want: well-to-do cosmopolitan parents, a private education, a strong faith foundation — even two baby grand pianos at her fingertips. But beneath this perfect façade, her family hid a horrific secret. No one could have guessed there was an actual torture chamber in the basement of 763 Montgomery Place, or that McCall was being raped repeatedly by her father. And by the age of eighteen, she didn’t know either — she had repressed every memory of abuse. Twenty years later, married and with children of her own, McCall's memories began to return.

When the Piano Stops is McCall's revealing memoir detailing the abuse she suffered at the hands of her mentally ill father and her remarkable recovery as an adult. Now a highly successful family therapist, her ability to overcome the dark years of childhood is an inspiration to those who have been sexually abused. Her prose is lucid, with early events narrated from the perspective of a child, giving her story a stark authenticity and immediacy.

A true survivor memoir, When the Piano Stops is poised to change the face of literature on the topic of sexual abuse.

What Child Sexual Abuse Means to Child Survivors Children have a lot to say about their own sexual abuse. Their stories show they know far more than adults realize.

Children often think that sexual abuse is their fault. They think they were supposed to have been able to stop the abuse. Unfortunately, many people blame children, too.

What is hopeful in these stories is that children know the abusers did something wrong, and they call out abusers for who they really are.

Invisible Girls: The Truth about Sexual Abuse
The statistics are staggering.

One in four girls will experience sexual abuse by the time she is sixteen, and 48 percent of all rapes involve a young woman under the age of eighteen. It’s not surprising then, that in a society where sexual abuse of young women is rampant, many women never share their stories. They remain hidden and invisible.

In her pioneering work with young survivors through the last thirty years, Dr. Patti Feuereisen has helped teen girls and young women to find their voices, begin healing, and become visible.

In this revised second edition, Dr. Patti’s gentle guidance and the girls’ powerful stories continue to create an encouraging message: Remarkable healing is possible if girls learn to share their stories in their teens and early twenties. With a new introduction, new chapters, and updated resources, this new edition of Invisible Girls has even more to offer girls, young women, and those who care about them.

Understanding Child Abuse & Neglect Children have been abused and neglect nearly as long as man has inhabited earth. History reveals how the Sumerians, five thousand years ago, had a man in charge of the whip to punish boys who stepped out of line. It was common for the ancient Greek philosophers to have sex with their young male students. The Spartans abandoned their weak and deformed children on hillsides or threw them into a deep canyon. In China and India, children were cast into rivers as offerings to water gods to bring good harvests. For most of history, children have been abandoned, beaten, sacrificed, sold, used in sex, murdered, even eaten. Very little was done to protect them.

In 1875, the case of Mary Ellen began a new era for the rights of children. Her adoptive parents abused and neglected Mary Ellen. Concerned church workers tried to convince local authorities to take legal action against the parents. They next appealed for help to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The SPCA brought Mary Ellen to the attention of the court as a mistreated “animal.” Since the law did protect animals from abuse, the court took Mary Ellen from her adoptive parents. They went to prison. Children had at least reached a status equal to animals.

Because of the Mary Ellen case, the New York County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was established. Similar societies began in other American cities. By 1968, all 50 states had enacted some form of law regarding the reporting of child abuse. In 1974, the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act was signed into law, creating the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect. Nearly 100 years after the case of Mary Ellen, a national approach to the problem of child abuse began.

Unfortunately, however, the problem of child abuse and neglect continues. Each year, over one million cases of child abuse and neglected are reported to authorities in the United States. As many as seven children die each day from abuse. About 12 abused children each day suffer brain damage. It is impossible to know exactly how many children suffer from emotional, physical or mental handicaps resulting from abuse and neglect.

What can we do about this national tragedy? How can we save children from further abuse and neglect? One answer is citizen involvement. Concerned citizens saved Mary Ellen. Law enforcement and government agencies cannot do the job alone. They, and the children they protect, need your help. This publication provides information so that you will better understand the problems of child abuse and neglect and know how to help prevent and report it. If you are concerned about child abuse and neglect, get involved. If you need better parenting skills, seek help. If you suspect child abuse and neglect, report it. Your concerned involvement CAN make an important difference in the lives of America’s abused and neglected children.

Not Trauma Alone: Therapy for Child Abuse Survivors in Family and Social Context (Series in Trauma and Loss) How is an individual to lead a comfortable, productive existence when he or she was never taught the skills necessary for effective living? Adult survivors of child abuse often face this dilemma. Instead of being nurtured as children and taught life-skills by their caregivers, child abuse survivors were subjected to a daily regimen of coercive control, contempt, rejection and emotional unresponsiveness. It is not surprising, therefore, that many survivors encounter difficulty adjusting from this type of damaging childhood atmosphere to one in which they have autonomy. This book addresses the particular problems associated with treating adult survivors of child abuse. Until now, psychotherapy for child abuse survivors often centered on the trauma of their abuse experiences. However, survivors frequently reveal a history suggesting it was not abuse trauma alone that created their difficulties, but growing up essentially alone - without the consistent emotional support and guidance needed for development of effective functioning. This book presents an alternative to trauma-focused treatment that, though effective for treatment of other forms of trauma, can induce deteriorated rather than improved functioning in survivors of prolonged childhood maltreatment. The contextual therapy presented in Not Trauma Alone delineates a psychotherapeutic approach that emphasizes helping survivors develop the capacities for effective functioning that were never transmitted to them during their formative years. Detailed descriptions of the methods and interventions comprising contextual therapy are included in this critical book for all mental health professionals, clinicians, academics, and students in the field.
