It always happens: just when you think your child has found a child learning toy that she really enjoys, she seems to grow bored of it suddenly and toss it aside. A lot of parents might think that this is because the child is spoiled or that the novelty of the child learning toy has worn off, but this is not usually the case.

Novelty might have something to do with it, but the common underlying reason for a child losing interest in a child learning toy is that they have learnt everything that the toy has to teach them. You will need to find a new source of stimulation, but don't throw that old toy out yet. If it taught a concept or a skill, that can be revisited later and reinforced, but only after a little while.

When you go to the toy store to look for a new child learning toy, your first instinct is to go with one that will likely keep your child occupied for some time. While this should be a concern, your primary one should be choosing a child learning toy that teaches a skill or a concept that is new to your child. This should be in key with your child's development (so don't buy math games for a four year old, hoping to give your child a 'head start')

The toys you buy your child will need to be constantly updated to ensure that they are learning and developing at the proper rate.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism gives some practical strategies for bringing up the subject of alcohol use with your child:
# Encourage conversation. Encourage your child to talk about whatever interests him or her. Listen without interruption and give your child a chance to teach you something new. Your active listening to your child’s enthusiasms paves the way for conversations about topics that concern you.
# Ask open-ended questions. Encourage your teen to tell you how he or she thinks and feels about the issue you’re discussing. Avoid questions that have a simple “yes” or “no” answer.
# Control your emotions. If you hear something you don’t like, try not to respond with anger. Instead, take a few deep breaths and acknowledge your feelings in a constructive way.
# Make every conversation a “win-win” experience. Don’t lecture or try to “score points” on your teen by showing how he or she is wrong. If you show respect for your child’s viewpoint, he or she will be more likely to listen to and respect yours.
# Draw the line. Set clear, realistic expectations for your child’s behavior. Establish appropriate consequences for breaking rules and consistently enforce them.
# Offer acceptance. Make sure your teen knows that you appreciate his or her efforts as well as accomplishments. Avoid hurtful teasing or criticism.
# Understand that your child is growing up. This doesn’t mean a hands-off attitude. But as you guide your child’s behavior, also make an effort to respect his or her growing need for independence and privacy.
Drug abuse used to be considered a moral failing, with addicts written off as willful and incorrigible. Today, teen drug abuse is more likely to be seen as a physiological disorder, a disease that can be treated and eventually conquered. Approaches to treatment for drug abuse vary, but people in treatment all learn how to change their behavior and reduce their cravings. Relapses are common, but people who stick with drug addiction treatment and can reclaim healthy, productive lives.
Drug addiction certainly can be treated. While drug abuse used to be viewed as being, at best, a weak, flawed person’s response to life’s pressures and temptations, today most professionals who work with teen drug addiction consider it a medical condition, on the same plane as diabetes or heart disease. And just as someone with diabetes or heart disease has to institute lifestyle changes and take medications, teens in treatment for drug addiction learn behavioral changes and often take medications as part of their treatment regimen. This change in attitude has helped boost hope for many teens and their families.
In fact, one of the reasons drug abuse is so prevalent is that many folks who need treatment for drug abuse don’t get it. The U.S. Department of Labor posted a report recently of one study showing that 47 percent of men and 41 percent of women in need of treatment for abuse of illicit drugs are not treated. Much of this gap between need and actual treatment comes from inadequate funding for drug abuse treatment and inadequate education about drugs and drug treatment.
There are many ways in which drug and alcohol addiction can be treated, and that treatment can lead to permanent recovery if the person fighting the addiction makes a real commitment to a treatment program and sticks with it. According to several studies, drug treatment reduces drug use by 40 to 60 percent, but, typically, only for people who stay in treatment for three months or longer. Treatment for drug and alcohol abuse is a long process that involves not only recovery from the physical effects of substance abuse but therapy that allows drug abusers to understand the psychological and social roots of their addictions and learn new ways of coping. As much as they need to stop using, they also need to recognize the emotional triggers that can cause them to start using again. That’s why it’s important to choose the treatment program that best serves the individual needs of the recovering addict.

Manners make a person to look different from the other. Manner means that respect the other. Today Parent is very conscious about to teach Good manners to their children. So they hire a teacher to teach their children good manner but this all things which you are doing to make a perfect good and well-mannered children is not good. Because if you want your children have a Good manner then you have to make a practice to your child to say “Sorry” “Thanks” etc.

Parent always want that their children have Good Manner but they never think that I teach him some Good Things. Today’s every parent is busy in their work and children in under eyes of baby sitter. She can’t make your child perfect because she is doing her Job she takes your child as her work.

Here are some Tips to make Good and Well-Mannered Child

1. Firstly you have to help your child to make a list of Good Manners in their mind. Then only your child is a good mannered. Not pressurize your children to learn anything. Small children’s are always curies to learn different things.
2. You can also do one thing go library and select some interesting story book and read it in front of your child after dinner time. And also at the end of the story please tell the moral of the story because moral only make your children manner good. It learns things from the story moral.
3. If your Child is in school age then you can teach your child by some good books. Read it for your children or you can also make your child to read it. It is also good for your children. Also make a good practice of writing, reading, drawing etc. It makes your child practice and also teaches some Good Manners.
4. Also teach some body language to your Child. Ex-if you want to say your child keep quit then you put your finger on your mouth your child should understand your body language. It makes a good habit to your Child.
5. After preparing a Good list in your children mind if you listen any abuse word from the mouth of your child please don’t take it in laugh. Please remind your child don’t use this type of abuse words or try to delete this type of abuse words from the mind of your children.
6. If you teach in nice way then perfectly your children will be a Good and well-mannered but if you take it lightly then there is a chance that it may happen opposite also.

So, care regularly to your child and teach everything which you want to under your eyes if you put your child under baby sitter then it beat your child to teach it is not good for children. Children can learn everything but the way of teaching is Good and lovely. Children’s are always hunger of Love and we know that only one person can understand that thing mom. So children learn Good manners from their moms. So it is a responsibility of every mother in this world teach Good manner to their Child.

Foster care is considered only to be a temporary solution to an existing birthparent-child problem. Children turned over to foster homes were either abandoned, neglected, victims of physical abuse, or there are no available caretakers. Other reasons include sexual abuse and failed placement.

The biggest reason why courts order children to be moved to foster homes vary from state to state, but primary aim of foster homes is to provide a shelter to children whom the court deems as not safe in their own homes.

The length of stay of each child in foster care also varies which can last from a few days to years. Some remain to stay in a foster family while the adoption process is ongoing while others are made to wait until the court is certain that the birthparents are already capable of child-rearing or that they have reached a final decision about giving up the child for adoption.

Difference between foster care and adoption
In foster care foster families must defer decisions regarding a child’s welfare to courts. A social worker also actively oversees the child’s welfare while in foster care. Adoptive parents, on the other hand, have essentially all the legal rights and obligations as birthparents.

In addition, children in foster homes may only be removed upon court order while an adopted child can be removed only based on the same reasons as a birth child.

Costly implications
Being turned over to foster care as a child is for a particular child’s best interests especially when the main reason was to rescue him/her from abuse that’s happening in his own home or sustained in the hands of his/her birthparents. Despite its noble aims, though, many children raised in foster care became problematic adults. A significant percentage of these children either went to jail as adults or continually receive welfare benefits even through adulthood.

Many of the children in foster care are also suffering from medical problems, which range from hearing impairment, developmental delays, anemic, poor vision, to respiratory illnesses such as tuberculosis.

Is it a good idea to adopt children who are in foster care? Obviously, it depends on the child you wish to adopt but the idea itself can be noble, that is, if one of the reasons for choosing to adopt a child from a foster home is to provide him/her with hope and a chance to fulfill his/her dreams as well as yours.

It can be hard to relate to a foster child knowing that he’s/she’s been exposed to trauma in his/her own. Nonetheless, it can elicit good parenting skills from you and, hence, help the child get through life in general.

I am a man of 54 years now. But despite seeing so many things in my life and experiencing all the emotions, I feel hurt when I am verbally abused. It is not that verbal abuse does not hurt. Some people think that verbal abuse can be easily forgotten and one may go forward. Yes, one goes forward but the scars of the wound inflicted by the verbal abuse go along with many of us. How about a child?

A child can be verbally abused in many ways. Children abusing each other with name calling etc. are common. But worse is verbal abuse by elders. Parents, relatives and teachers form part of this group in a child's life. Many parents have set ideas about how a child should behave. If the child does not behave that away, the parents do not explain them the right way but make fun of them verbally. If such fun is made in presence of others the child's psyche is hurt. The hurt may look very innocent but that makes a child feel insecure about themselves. The children lose faith in their own abilities. They learn wrong methods of behavior. I have seen some parents who verbally abuse their child in presence of the teacher. All the complaints they have about the child are made right in the presence of the teacher. This is a verbal thrashing. Somehow because the child cannot hit back, it is taken as granted by many adults that children can be verbally abused without hurting them. Adults feel good after verbally abusing them and feel that they know how to properly train a child. The facts are contrary. The child feels humiliated.

Whenever we talk to a child, we should put ourselves in their shoes and first think about how that will affect the child. Only after we are sure, we should speak to a child about sensitive issues. Verbally abusing a child is a crime in law, and also a bigger crime in the scheme of God.

No child is should go up in a home where they live in fear. There are too many reports of child abuse. The number of child abuse cases are tremendous. Especially when you take into consideration that 2,700 children will be abused today. Another 2,700 will be abused tomorrow and the next day and the next day. In one day, three children will die of abuse. These children will never make it to their fifth birthday.

Every 10 seconds there is a report of child abuse. An estimated 906,000 children were victims of some form of child abuse in 2003 alone. The problem is that the abuse is happening, but the authorities are doing little to help prevent it. Most kids will not tell that they are being abused. They have been told by the abuser that he/she will kill them or their siblings or the rest of their family.

These children are also afraid that they will get worse abuse if they tell someone. A child can tell you that everything is fine. That is when we need to look at the signs and effects of child abuse. These children maybe telling us that they are being abused in a nonverbal way. Many of these cases were reported to the police and to the Departments of Children and Family Services. While the initial report may have been investigated, but Department of Children and Family Services could not find enough evidence to remove the children from the homes.

These children ultimately pay the price. There are four main forms of child abuse. They are physical, emotional, neglect, and sexual. The most common form of abuse is neglect. When a child is being sexually abused more than likely they are being physically abused as well. No form of child abuse is the child's fault. All forms of child abuse are detrimental to the child's physical, social, mental, and psychological development.

Recently in the news, a 13 year old girl is being charged for shooting her father to death. This girls suffered physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her father for years. Her brother also suffered the same abuse at the hands of her father. The authorities were called and did nothing to prevent any more abuse from happening to these two children. She shot her father in the face knowing that it was the only way to get out of this violent situation.

Another case that recently hit the new was a 3 year was raped by her uncle. This girls uncle has a history of sexual abuse. He was living in the same house as the 3 year old and injured her so bad that she had to be hospitalized. Her mother found her abused and bleeding in his room. If the authorities do not find significant evidence on the first visit, then maybe they should be putting surveillance cameras or digital room recorders in the home.

These surveillance cameras or digital room recorders would give them the proof. Closing the case after the first visit is not an option. They may need to visit the home unannounced a couple of times to get a true picture of what is going on. We have all heard of child abuse cases that we have heard about on the news. When we hear the news of a child dying or being seriously injured because of abuse, we are appalled. We want to know where the authorities were in this case and how this child slipped through the cracks.

The public has all these questions for the authorities when this happens but no answers from them. The public then drops these questions when those same authorities say that they are investigating the abuse and what led the abuse to get so bad that it winds up in serious injury or death to the child. It is time we start protecting all children and asking these questions. Do not let another child slip through the cracks of our system.

If there is a living hell for a child, it is sexual abuse. Most of the children are very ignorant about sex and their own body. For them there is nothing like private parts. As they grow up they begin understanding. But many children are abused before they come to understand anything about sex. To abuse a child sexually is a heinous crime. You never know when the child may be abused sexually unless you know where your child is and with who? It is very important to know about the whereabouts of the child and the people with them.

I do not want to go into the details of what a child feels after sexual abuse. It will suffice to say that the child may develop life long sexual and mental problems. The child may carry the weight of unknown pain for all the life. To make sure that your child is not sexually abused always look for some factors. if anybody shows undue interest in your child, be careful. Do not ignore even the most near and dear ones. If someone tries to take care of your child without your request or shows any eagerness, be vigilant. Always keep this question in your mind- why this person has so much interest for my child. All the people are not abusers, but it will certainly be safe if you are vigilant.

Look for signs in your child if anytime you suspect something. Many children do not report sexual abuse even to their parents. If the child begins showing unusual behavior such as change in appetite, bed wetting, difficulty in sleeping, afraid, or any such sign that you see should make you ask your child about why? Please teach your children about their private parts and tell them that if anybody tries to touch them there, they should immediately tell you about that. As a parent your child needs your protection. A single incident may leave long shadows on your child. Please protect your child.

When mum and dad decided to end their marriage, this does not mean they do not love their child any less. On the contrary, the breakdown of marriage can bring the relationship between parent and child closer, bringing out the protective instincts in both mum and dad, if the separation is correctly dealt with.

In common cases, parents undergoing divorces stress are not liberated and most often uses their children as weapons against their estranged spouse. This could leave a deep scar and emotional damages to the child that is hard to cure even for years to come. In order to safeguard your child from all the abuse, you and your partner must foremost do not criticize each other in front of the children. Keep arguments and derogatory statements behind closed doors.

Parents should always respect the custody arrangements and do not use their push their children around. Some parents deliberately return their children later than scheduled during custody visits or make a sudden change of arrangements just to stay on top of the pay-back stakes.

It is also wise that once separated, you shall leave behind all hurt caused to you by your ex spouse for the sake of the children. They do not need to grow up in your frustration or disappointment. Come to an agreement with your spouse to maintain in good relationship for healthy environment for the children. Managing your anger and moving beyond your personal frustrations with your former partner can be one of the best things you can do for your child.

It is always important that your children receive unconditional love from both parents. The effort of working through of a difficult custody deal must be directed by careful actions of the adults involved. Relieving your child of the stress of dislocation, and helping them to keep hold of their connection with both parents is generally the best you can do for a child.

Having said it all, you want to send a message to your child that even good marriages fail, and you still love them the same after the painful divorce.

Children with Sexual Behavior Problems: Family-Based, Attachment-Focused Therapy Sexually inappropriate touching, language, and other actions on the part of children are difficult to diagnose and treat.
Prevailing taboos about sex and the misconception that inappropriate sexual behavior is always a sign of sexual abuse inhibits frank conversation and often leads families to hide problems.

Here William Friedrich, with more than 25 years of experience in the field, offers a research-based and clinically-proven method for assessment, diagnosis, and intervention with children and their families. This book distinguishes itself by Friedrich's emphasis on addressing sexual behavior problems from an attachment perspective.

This means that, whenever possible, inappropriate sexual behavior is considered in light of larger family dynamics, emotional security, and child development. It also implies that family therapy is the ideal treatment modality. An important part of helping a child who exhibits inappropriate behavior involves guidance and reinforcement in the home. Friedrich shows therapists how to include the whole family in the process while not endangering the child or alienating the family.

A key feature of Children with Sexual Behavior Problems is the Assessment and Treatment Manual that constitutes the second part of the book. Grounded in the research-based perspective articulated in Part 1, the Manual puts Friedrich's insights into practice. Clear guidelines for evaluation and diagnosis are offered and a wealth of forms for clinicians and clients are included in order to structure therapeutic work.

Child Sexual Abuse: Disclosure, Delay, and Denial This volume provides the first rigorous assessment of the research relating to the disclosure of childhood sexual abuse, along with the practical and policy implications of the findings. Leading researchers and practitioners from diverse and international backgrounds offer critical commentary on these previously unpublished findings gathered from both field and laboratory research. Cross-cultural, clinical, and multi-disciplinary perspectives are provided. The goal is to learn more about why children frequently remain silent about their abuse, deny it, or if they do disclose, do so belatedly and incompletely, often recanting their allegations over time.

The book opens with a close examination of the existing literature on disclosure and the difficulties in conducting such research. It then examines the individual and contextual factors that determine whether, when, and how childhood sexual abuse is disclosed. This portion reviews how the interview techniques have a profound impact on disclosure patterns. Details of how reluctant children are interviewed are included. The third section examines the broader implications of disclosure for the child, family and peers, and for the suspect. Child Sexual Abuse examines how the interview strategies influence how, when, or if children disclose abuse, by examining both domestic and international data and by analyzing detailed interviews with children.

Child Sexual Abuse is for researchers and practitioners from child, forensic, and clinical psychology, social work, and all legal professionals who need to understand this crime.

Counselling Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse This updated and expanded edition provides comprehensive coverage of the theory and practice of counselling survivors of child sexual abuse (CSA). In a reasoned and thoughtful approach, common stereotypes of abusers and their victims are replaced with current knowledge on the incidence of CSA and its long-term impacts on adult survivors. Christiane Sanderson explores the therapeutic relationship from building trust and meeting the client's needs to establishing boundaries, addressing transference issues and avoiding secondary traumatic stress. She evaluates various treatment approaches and techniques, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of group therapy. Stand-alone chapters provide indepth coverage of: CSA's impact on survivors' sense of self and their relationships with others; self-harming behaviour, including self-injury, substance abuse and eating disorders; how memory is constructed and reconstructed, including the controversial issues surrounding recovered memories; useful approaches to coping with fear and loss from working with other types of trauma; normal sexual development and typical sexual difficulties for survivors; and working with shame and dissociation. "Counselling Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse" honestly addresses the complex issues in this important area of work. It provides practical strategies for those new to counselling in this field and valuable new insights for experienced counsellors.

Teen Torment: Overcoming Verbal Abuse at Home and at School Ask teens and they’ll confirm it—verbal abuse is "a fact of teen life." From simple put-downs to hate-filled "trash talking," teens are drowning in a sea of poisoned words. How can it be stopped?

In her previous bestsellers, The Verbally Abusive Relationship and Controlling People, author and relationship expert Patricia Evans blazed new trails in helping us understand verbally abusive adults.

In Teen Torment, Evans explores how verbal abuse affects parents, teachers, peers, and the abusers themselves. She also reveals how teens become verbal abusers and how this verbal poison can spread into every aspect of teen life.

In this must-read book, Evans shows teens, parents, and teachers how important it is to detect this hurtful behavior early on, and how to deal with and end this escalating epidemic in America before painful words and ugly talk ruin young lives.

JOEY VASTONE At the age of nineteen Joey’s already lived through alcoholic parents, child and verbal abuse, gay sexual encounters and the murder of his best friend, and now as his life begins the transformation from a teen to adulthood he hasn’t the first clue to what more is coming along to rip out another piece of his soul, especially now when his life should only be revolving around the thought of dating, partying and sexual encounters with his High School Alumni. Usually by nineteen most boys have had at least some kind of experimentation with some girl, but not Joey, no, normal sex between man and woman is still in its infancy as far as he’s concerned; sure there’s that time when he and Betty-Ann are in that empty warehouse down at the train yards and she says, if you show me yours I’ll show you mine, but otherwise, the only sex afforded him is from some child molester or abuser and now staring into his future is adulthood with all its hidden agendas like marriage, deception, greed and a future in parenthood.

Dangerous Schools: What We Can Do About the Physical and Emotional Abuse of Our Children From the inner-city to the suburbs, thousands of school children are being systematically subjected to mandatory classroom policies which inflict both physical and emotional harm. Hundreds of school officials from across the country have been found guilty of sexual harassment, the illegal use of undercover agents, strip searches, corporal punishment, verbal abuse, punitive isolation, and other forms of institutional abuse. In Dangerous Schools, Professor Irwin Hyman and Pamela Snook, passionate advocates against the institutional maltreatment of children, reveal exactly what is going on in our nation's schools and what we must do about it.

"This book makes a strong argument against school abuses and offers clear and proven strategies for change. It will appeal to parents who suspect that their children have been maltreated by educators and for advocates who desire a blueprint for social change."---James Garbarino, codirector, Family Life Development Center, Cornell University; author, What Children Can Tell Us

Recent public inquiries, research and new legislation have all compelled child care professionals to widen their focus beyond the narrow parameters of the physical health of the child. Emotional and psychological health are now rightly regarded as crucial. This text aims to enable practitioners to articulate precisely what is meant by the terms "emotional" and "psychological" abuse; to be able to identify it, and to formulate effective strategies for dealing with it. The author identifies certain categories of parent and parental circumstances which are conducive to the emotional and psychological abuse of children. He makes clear however, that parents are not the only carers who abuse children in this way. He explores such abuse within an historical, global and cultural context, and examines recent inquiry reports which have exposed the emotional and psychological abuse of children within the child care and child protection systems. Numerous case histories are provided, and one is explored in detail within the context of new child care legislation.

Preventing Mental, Emotional, and Behavioral Disorders Among Young People: Progress and Possibilities For multi-user PDF licensing, please contact customer service.

Mental health and substance use disorders among children, youth, and young adults are major threats to the health and well-being of younger populations which often carryover into adulthood. The costs of treatment for mental health and addictive disorders, which create an enormous burden on the affected individuals, their families, and society, have stimulated increasing interest in prevention practices that can impede the onset or reduce the severity of the disorders.

Prevention practices have emerged in a variety of settings, including programs for selected at-risk populations (such as children and youth in the child welfare system), school-based interventions, interventions in primary care settings, and community services designed to address a broad array of mental health needs and populations.

Preventing Mental, Emotional, and Behavioral Disorders Among Young People updates a 1994 Institute of Medicine book, Reducing Risks for Mental Disorders, focusing special attention on the research base and program experience with younger populations that have emerged since that time.

Researchers, such as those involved in prevention science, mental health, education, substance abuse, juvenile justice, health, child and youth development, as well as policy makers involved in state and local mental health, substance abuse, welfare, education, and justice will depend on this updated information on the status of research and suggested directions for the field of mental health and prevention of disorders.

This text integrates past research in review chapters which pose important questions for researchers and therapists in the field of child sexual abuse. In addition, seven major research studies are reported; five undertaken in Canada, one in Britain, and one comparing sexually abused adolescents in both countries. The groups studied include adults in the general population recalling abuse in childhood; mothers of abuse victims; adolescents in residential care; and adolescent prostitutes. These studies indicate that child sexual abuse frequently has a major, negative and long term impact in terms of impaired mental health. This remains true when a range of other factors (physical and emotional abuse, and family disruption) are taken into account.

Darkness on a Sunny Day: The Struggle of an Adopted Child to Find Herself Who would have thought that each day you would be thankful for the pain you had suffered throughout your childhood? Each day I do. I think about how I wouldn’t have as much insight and understanding to life’s daily living. I am thankful for what anguish and suffering have allowed me to learn about me, who I am as a person and people around me. This book has taught me things step by step while writing it and looking back at the past, about my identity and what I want in life. I hope that others may learn from my own experiences before they make a mistake. Imagine a one-year-old already understanding the meaning of anger and hatred. That was me. After being juggled around for the first six months of my life and then landing in a foster home where I felt safe, I already had abandonment issues. Then, by six, imagine remembering being taken away from a family that you thought would be forever. When my adoptive family came along, I was already attached to another family. Even though a dream had come true, I never really came to terms with my new family because I thought I already had one. Years later, I figured it out. Their intentions were only good, loving, and caring to a child who didn’t have any love left to spare.

Reports alleging maltreatment of more than three million children were made in the United States in 1996, a rate of 44 per 1,000 children in the population. Of those reports, child protective services substantiated abuse or neglect in nearly one million children -- an 18 percent increase since 1990. More than half the 1996 reports alleging maltreatment came from medical, social services, education, or law enforcement professionals, and almost two-thirds of the substantiated reports were made by these professionals.

As diagnostic expertise has increased, child care professionals face new responsibilities for recognizing the short-term and long-term consequences of childhood victimization and for effectively treating victims of the various forms of child maltreatment. Achieving treatment goals requires that consultations among mental health, medical, and legal practitioners be conducted on common ground. This book seeks to provide that common ground.

Combining current theory about treating child abuse with current practice guidelines, Treatment of Child Abuse provides professionals with the guidance they need to take the correct steps to restore the child and the family as much as possible to normal. In addition, it addresses the rising demand for accountability in the health care system, which increasingly requires professionals to justify their efforts and their methods. The result is the first single reference source for the clinician who needs to know which approach to treatment might be most appropriate for a given child trying to cope with the aftermath of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. It provides guidelines for treatment of the different categories of abuse as well as neglect, Munchausen by proxy, and multiple traumatization. Initial medical management, legal interventions, long-term medical management, and long-term management of developmental and psychological consequences are thoroughly covered, as are complicated issues such as treatment-resistant families, the treatment of offenders, forensic implications (including confidentiality), and the long-term consequences of childhood victimization.

Living, Breathing Lies Breathe a lie, live a lie. That's what Nadirah Lewis learns when she uncovers the stunning lie she was forced to live for seventeen years. Nadirah was twelve years old when she was blamed for crippling her Aunt Stephanie. Guilt and her trust fund kept Nadirah a prisoner in Stephanie's home and the object of Stephanie's cruel tongue, but it took another vicious lie and a threat to Nadirah's career as a teacher to infuse her with the energy to fight back.

Nadirah's fight, however, is not just for herself. It is also for one of her young students, Bree Morrison. When Bree is hospitalized after drinking a near fatal dose of poison, Nadirah petitions the Administration for Child Services for guardianship. Bree's mother has inexplicably disappeared, and what Bree won't say is what Nadirah needs to hear before Bree's aunt Erma, a she-devil on wheels, wins the custody battle.

Erma, the soon-to-be ex-wife of Austin Gray, Nadirah's handsome new landlord, and close friend of Lynn, Nadirah's cousin, lets Nadirah know in no uncertain terms that she will never get Bree or her husband. But what unforgivable lie does Erma live that could stop her cold yet devastate all around her?

And Lynn, as well put together and as orderly as her life is, what shameful lie lurks behind her picturesque suburban doors?

While the revelation of many of the lies give Nadirah the courage to find herself, she must accept the fact that those same lies may well destroy the lives of those closest to her. Unveil the shocking, real life truths of Living, Breathing Lies.

The Crimes of Children: A STORY OF MENTAL ILLNESS, ABUSE, AND LEARNING TO LOVE AGAIN. The Crimes of Children is the horrific journey of Charles A. Morgan. It is the true story of a mentally-ill child, compounded by severe abuse by his classmates. He was left un-medicated and untreated for almost 3 decades. This story unfolds as his behavior and decision-making get to the point where he tries to take his life many times, through overdoses, even to the point of jumping-off a major interstate bridge into the Ohio River. He wanders through life, with no friends and countless jobs, only to be hospitalized several times. Then, as a child, begins to learn how to walk. Chuck learns how to live after a near-successful suicide attempt. He was able to find his heart and his soul and, like a miracle, found forgiveness for those who hurt him so much - finding his heart, when most would have perished.
