Keeping a company safe is an essential part of running any business. Whether protecting the customer, an employee, or the finances you should always be aware of how you can keep your company out of harm's way. Becoming careless with a companies safety will always have negative consequences. There are many actions you may take to make sure your company is safe from criminals.

There are several everyday company necessities that may be more important than you think. For example, having an accessible phone that can easily dial 911 should be standard. Many have a phone out of reach, but every business should have several phones in case of an emergency. If an employee has an emergency in a room that does not have a phone, they can be in serious trouble. As a result you and your company are also in trouble.

Another necessity is a security camera. Even one video camera could prevent a criminal from acting out. Making employees aware of security cameras in an office makes them much less likely to steal, become violent, or commit other crimes during work. Video cameras also are important evidence if an employee does commit a crime .

The most important procedure when protecting a company is performing a criminal background check. Criminal background checks are simple and can prevent you from hiring a criminal that could hurt your business. It is possible to perform your own criminal background check in your local superior courthouse. However if you do not have the time or the experience there are many companies that specialize on performing background checks. For example, Inquisitive Research of New Jersey performs several different background checks including criminal, civil records, education verifications, and employment verifications. Performing a criminal background check on all employees will make your company a safer place.

Procrastinators, take note - waiting until the last minute to update your resume and cover letter puts you at risk for missing out on your dream job!

Picture this: You're a young professional at your desk, hard-at-work amidst the usual daily grind, when your telephone rings. Surprise! It's a recruiter calling! He's heard about all the great things you're doing at your company, and he has the perfect opportunity for you. Only problem is, he needs your resume like, pronto!

How do you reply?

a) Sure thing…let me e-mail it to you right now.
b) Uh, well, you see…I haven't really updated my resume since I got this job 10 years ago, and I've really accomplished a lot here—made the company a bajillion dollars and cured world hunger in the process—but none of that is listed on my resume. Can you give me a couple of weeks to get something over to you?

If you answered A, then go to the head of the class. If you answered B, however, we've got some work to do! Now, if you're sitting there shaking your head and acting like you're never going to get a recruiter call like that, think again, because we get that phone call at least two or three times each week!

The bottom line: Be prepared. Keep your resume and cover letter current. It doesn't have to be a recruiter who calls…it could be your friend, or a family member, or someone you met at a business function last week calling to tell you about an exciting opportunity. Time is an important factor, and if you're ready to jump on an opportunity when it falls in your lap, you will make a solid first impression on that prospective employer.

Dump those procrastinator tendencies and be proactive - your career will thank you for it!

Here are a few ideas on maximizing your any acting opportunities that might come your way, or creating the opportunities in the first place.

HAVING AN AGENT

An agent can get your face seen in places that you alone could not. This increases the likelihood of you getting work. The more swings you make the more balls you hit! But there are many acting opportunities to be found without an agent. Though nearly all Film, TV, Broadway and Off Broadway productions will exclusively use agent submissions, you can still find work without an agent. Community and Dinner Theatre, student and some Indie films will take unrepresented actors.
The more experience and skills you have the more likely it is that an agent will take you on. An agent makes money when you work, so they will be keen to sign you up if you can show what an asset you will be to them. There is nothing wrong with sending a Resume and Headshot (more on those later), but it’s essential that you send follow-up cards letting the agent know where and when you will be working, so they can see for themselves what a good actor you are.

RESUMES

Resumes help, they help in getting an agent but once you have one, your agent will use it to get you auditions. There are some rules for resumes, here are are the major ones.

Keep it to one page (8.5 x 11), if its more than one page the pages might get separated and details lost.

Make it neat. People have been known to get around the above restriction by using a small font size, its a judgement call but if the type is too small it will be hard to read.

The Headshot should be recent, but use a photograph that shows you at your absolute best.

Make sure that all your contact information is correct, its also an idea to set up an email address specifically for your acting correspondence, this may stop you deleting essential emails.

The big tip for resumes is DON’T LIE! We have all exaggerated something on an application form at some time, but you should be very careful about what you say you can do on your resume. Future opportunities could be endangered if you lie and you will look foolish if you’ve put motorcycle riding down as a skill and on your first day on set you have to admit you just to get the part.

LOCAL COMMERCIALS

The majority of acting opportunities are focused around the major cities like New York and L.A. But other opportunities crop up all over the country, some of which I mentioned in the opening paragraph. The most lucrative can be commercials for local car dealerships, restaurants and large local stores. These are usually produced by local agencies who will normally use local talent because it’s easier and cheaper than flying in someone from L.A. The director will still only hire actors with the relevant skill and look, but you can improve your opportunities if you have a diverse or “ethnically ambiguous” look, i.e. if you can pass for more than one type of race.

Thanks for taking the time to read this article, I hope that it’s given you a few ideas on maximizing your acting opportunities.I hope it helped and gave you a few ideas.

Acting is one of the most sought-after careers for those who love art. It is not only a beautiful form expression but also one of the most creative ways to display all kinds of emotions like happiness, sadness, anger, love, romance etc. And there is not just one genre of acting; a theatre actor is a very different actor than the one working for cinema. For all different forms of acting, one needs different kind of learning experience. And there are various acting institutes all over India that not only help one in getting refined as an actor but also help them in learn the basic forms and etiquettes of theatre and drama.

Joining such an institute or any kind of theatre society is the first step towards entering the field of acting. Here’s a brief description of the most renowned acting schools:

National School of Drama –
This institute is a leader in its category. The training of National School of Drama is highly exhaustive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus which covers almost every aspect of theatre in which theory is related to practice. During the training, students are required to produce plays which are then performed before the public.

The admission is restricted to 20 students in the first year of the acting course. The students are selected on the basis of screening from all over India.

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII)–
FTII has been responsible for giving the Indian Film Industry talent like Subhash Ghai, Mani Kaul, Nasiruddin Shah, Jaya Bhaduri, Raza Murad, Shatrughan Sinha, Mithun Chakraborty, Tom Alter, Kanwarjit Paintal, Adoor Gopal Krishnan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Raj Kumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and many more. It is one of the leading film and television institutes in India where students from all over India are selected for training in different courses like direction, acting, cinematography, art direction and production design, audiography, animation and computer graphics, editing and feature film screenplay writing.

Besides these leading institutes there are other institutes all over India that can help you take your acting career to the next level like Asia Academy of Film & Television in Noida, R.K. Films & Media Academy in Delhi, Delhi Film Institute in Delhi, Zee Institute of Media Arts in Mumbai, Digital Academy in Mumbai, Livewires – The Film School in Mumbai, National Academy of Cinema and Television in Bangalore, Academy of Film and Drama in Bangalore etc.

It is definitely essential to be a part of an institute that can refine your talent and help you be a part one of the most attractive career fields in India. But how does one kick-start his/her acting career. Here are some tips that can help you having a successful acting career:

1. Before joining the acting fraternity, starting increasing your contacts through networking and consider becoming an extra in TV or film. First of all, look for an acting agency that specializes in landing extras. You can easily find acting agencies that regularly look for extras. Acting as an extra can also help you have an income to live on your own till you actually kick-start your full-time acting career.

2. Get an effective acting headshot. It will convey that you are serious and professional about your career. Pick up a good photographer with an excellent acting headshot experience.

3. Create your acting CV. As an actor, you will first have to 'apply' for an acting job, which is generally called an audition. Your acting resume will be the first casting agent that will determine whether you're right for the job or not.

4. Prepare yourself meticulously for your audition. First and foremost, make sure all the necessary things are in order i.e. your photographic portfolio including your headshots, your outfit for the day and make-up are all ready. Also, ensure that your resume and all valid documents for the audition are updated and look professional.

Overall the only tip to enter this field is to have determination and courage as there is a lot of competition out there. There are many struggling artists so make sure that you having something extra and something special in you to become a successful actor or actress.

There are hundreds of books and articles on how to improve your acting! So to save you a little time I’ve put together a list of 10 tips, that I'm sure, will help.

Know your script inside out. Read, re-read and then read again, and not just your own lines it will help if you know every line of all the scenes you are in. From this foundation you can go on to identify the reason for your lines, this will help you react with the right lines at the right time and make remembering easier.

Show active listening, you should give the impression that what your character is hearing is purely of that moment. Don’t jump in with your line just to prove you know it, take your time, it is a conversation and they often require thought.

Avoid the obvious, the quickest way to improve your acting is to realize that your first choice will usually be the laziest - not the best one for the part. Look beyond your initial choice and be brave.

Practice breathing for at least 20 minutes a day. Inhale as deeply as possible and exhale for twice the amount of time you spent inhaling (i.e. inhale 15 seconds exhale 30 seconds). This will help pre-audition stress, stage fright and can help you reset after corpsing.

Be a professional Turning up on time, or early, will give you all the warm up time and, more importantly, the space you need. And it shows respect to your fellow professionals.

Be fair. Don’t bad mouth your fellow actors. This is good advice because eventually they will find out what you've been saying, but also because if you always blame others for a scene not working etc., you will miss out on the opportunity to accurately evaluate your own deficiencies.

If you find yourself in a situation where every is either over acting or shouting there is a great deal to be said for underacting, hold your nerve and avoid the melodrama. Your performance will stand out like the calm at the centre of the storm.

Just do it! Practice makes perfect after all. The more acting you do, the better you should get, the greater the number of actors and directors you will work with enabling you to find the truest way for you to develop quickly.

Make your colleagues look as good as possible. It sounds odd but getting the best from your fellow actors will reflect on your own performance and help you develop. It will also improve your professional reputation which, in turn, should mean you get more work.

Finally, don't give up. You have to have the courage to stick to your guns when you think your right, even if you consider the criticism harsh, or are getting lots of rejections. Be honest with your self and be brave, most actors get rejected for most jobs most of the time!Don't give up.

Thanks for taking the time to read his article, I hope it will help a little.

Would you like to be rich and famous? Most of us would be happy with just one of these, but acting extras usually end up neither! Having said that it can be fun and also a foot in the door of the film and TV world. Here are a few things to bear in mind.

Be Aware Of The Con Tricks.

There are many scams and cons that take advantage of peoples desire to be acting extras. The most cons common usually involve very high fees to sign up to an acting extras agency. These fees can be in $100s and usually entitle you to composites or head shots that are at best pointless and at worst misleading, or the promise a series of acting classes which, if they materialize, are of no real benefit.
To avoid these traps, look for a well established reputable agency. There will be a one off registration fee $20 or $30 to pay for the initial admin. But after that they make money when you do - thats their job! They will work to find you auditions that suit your skills and physical type.If you have a specific skill or physical attribute you may get paid more. Its worth pointing out that if you have an agent and get a job yourself, without their input, you still have to pay them. If you are with an agent and they don’t get you any work at all you can move to another by giving them 30 days notice of the cancelation of the contract in writing.

Behave On Set.

As an acting extra bad on-set behavior can have a massive affect how much work you get.
Some good rules are;
Arrive early,
If you are new, watch and learn from your more experienced colleagues,
It’s worth bringing a book because you can be on set with nothing to do for hours, be patient. But when you are asked to do something do it straight away.
Treat the cast and crew with courtesy and respect,
Food is provided, but know your place in the pecking order - the bottom,
Never bother to the stars! If they initiate a conversation then reply, but you are there to do a job, you are not being paid to be a fan or to fill up your autograph book.

On set misbehavior will endanger your chances of being asked back or even sent from set there and then.

Keep Your Eyes And Ears Open.

This not only applies to taking advice from more experienced extras on set as mentioned above, but it also applies to finding work. Adverts, films and TV shows are filmed all over the country and when an outdoor scene is shot then locals can get work as extras. The adverts for these jobs can be found in the local press and though they are at the lower end of the pay-scale, they could be the start of something bigger or just a good experience.

Get A SAG Card.

There are two types of extras, those with a Screen Actors Guild card (SAG) and those without. The Screen Actors Guild was set up to improve the working condition of actors. A SAG card means you get paid more and hopefully your career develops more quickly. Every extra starts without the card then as they do more and more work their chances of getting one improve. The basic rule is the more work you get the more more likely it is you'll get the card, once you get the card the more money you get paid. Easy!

I hope that this brief article has helped. Acting as an extra can be fun, it probably won’t make you rich and famous, but you might make some good friends and have some excellent diner party stories!

Now lets talk about a little more on which arena of acting you would prefer. As we mentioned in an earlier article, the options include the obvious venues like feature films, television shows, and stage productions.

There are several venues you may not have considered, and should. Its a great idea to try them all. If you choose to try them all then you will learn things from each arena and will become a very good actor. Now let us look at the acting venues that are a little less familiar.

Television Commercials

Some 80 percent of the money earned for acting is from TV commercials (who wouldve thought?). Nationwide TV commercials give you a lot of money, and most of the time they include residual checks each time the commercial is aired. Region wide TV commercials pay well too, and sometimes give you residuals. Another payment method is referred to as a buyout which is where you get paid once, and only once.

The things I love about television commercials: theyre fun, the pay is good for the time you spend, there are lots of themeven in smaller cities, and they dont take very long. The downside: they dont last very long, and as soon as theyre over, youre unemployed again can you remember this position? It still applies.

Industrial Film

Industrials include training films, PR films, corporate films and government films, How-To films sold commercially, films by religious or non-profit organizations, etc. This is a very large venue with lots of opportunity and variety. The pay varies according to the film you are participating in. Industrial film is not just found in the big cities.

Student films

Its worth mentioning that film school students have to make films in order to graduate, and they need actors for these films. You will usually get paid very well if at all, but you will have the opportunity to have a great experience as well as building up your resume. If you find a college/university with a program that puts students through making films, you will find an opportunity to act. Let them know youre available, and youre bound to get a call to audition.

Voiceover

While voiceover work is not on-camera acting, it is acting nonetheless. Most actors make great money participating in voiceover jobs for television, animated, industrial film, and radio. Voiceover work is not hard at all, it is just like reading a book aloud. To make it so more people want you to work in their voiceover, you should study languages, character voices, and dialects. You can find voiceover work in lots of towns or cities. The pay can be pretty good. My last voiceover gig was $270 for an hour in the studio.

Ok, weve taken a glimpse at some of the acting options that most people would not consider (we talk about these much more thoroughly in my ebook). Again, I recommend very strongly that you turn each of these venues into an experience of your own so you can become a well-rounded actor. Stay tuned for the next article and well see you in the movies.

A very broad word like Fine Arts would mean different things for different fields. For example, in arts it is defined as the creation of beautiful objects; artistic work that is meant to be appreciated for its own sake, rather than serve some useful function. In education fine arts would means as a college course in arts; a course of study designers to teach students practical artistic skills as well as the theory and history of art. Have you seen the difference of both definitions? Whatever the most appropriate denotation for this word is, it only proves that enough knowledge and learning is required to know more about of the things which are not that familiar to a person.

Have you finished a collegiate course in Fine Arts? Or if you're an upcoming "freshman" are you planning to take it as your course? What are the opportunities that await you if you finished it? Do you know that a graduate of a fine arts course can practice his craft in different art and design related industries? A fine Arts graduate can enter the field of acting, considering the fact that the study of this field involves its students into intensive acting workshops, trainings and seminars. Not only that, they can also pursue a career in musical theater because they have undergone voice lessons and workshops as part of their education curriculum. With enough financial capital, a graduate of this course can set up their own ceramic business and they act as the designer of ceramic products. If you think that ends up the possible industries where a Fine Arts graduate can enter, think twice: the long list is just starting. Computer animation is an addition to the field where they can practice what they have studied for and if they want to, they can spend their time in creative writing. A degree holder of this course can also be a commercial interior designer or whatever specialization in the interior design field he or she may take.

It is a notable scenario where fine arts professionals have settled a career in the fields of interior design. With their complete knowledge and skills in aesthetics, it makes it easier for them to adapt to the said field. Those who have the passion for taking aesthetically beautiful pictures and images may involve themselves into the field of photography. Those who have dreamed to produce a film can enter the film production industry. These are only a few of the fields where a Fine Arts graduate can involve himself. All of this only means one thing: a bunch of opportunities awaits you in the field of Fine Arts.

Medical and engineering are passé. Today’s youth are looking for new and exciting careers. One such field that is rising these days is media and mass communication. Although, journalism has always been around but with a sudden spurt in the number of news channels and newspapers, the demand for mass communication experts has increased manifold. A lot of students are looking to pursue courses in mass communication and acquire skill sets that will help them make a career in this field. Apart from journalism, advertising, modeling, acting, jockeying etc also fall under the same category and are gaining popularity. The education scenario is also bright as many good institutes are offering full-time and part-time courses in media, films and mass communication. The courses can be pursued both at degree and diploma level.

Mass communication clearly implies that it involves communicating to the masses through different modes. According to the target audience and the message to be broadcast, the media is selected. The information that has to transferred could be news or entertainment or both. Print, Television and radio are the most popular mediums through which one can communicate with the masses. Apart from these three, Internet is a fast upcoming medium gaining popularity in recent years, though it mainly caters to the young and educated audience.
The top institutes in mass communication are spread over various cities in India. Of the most renowned, Mudra Institute of Communications in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is a good option. It offers PG Diploma in Management in Communications (PGDMC), PG Programme in Communication Management and Entrepreneurship (PGPCME), PG Certificate Programme in Integrated Marketing Management (PGCPIMM), Career Development Programme in Design Communications Management (CDP-DCM) and PG Certificate in Advertising Management (PGCAM). It is a renowned institute and conducts admission tests for intakes.

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication based in New Delhi is another good institute. Established, over thirty years ago, the IIMC has gained recognition from UNESCO as a centre of excellence in the field of communication teaching, training and research. It provides a variety of courses including print journalism, photo journalism, radio journalism, television journalism, development communication, communication research, advertising and public relations.

The Asian College of Journalism based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a postgraduate college that provides students with journalism education adapted to the specific needs of India and other developing countries in Asia. The curriculum is based on the trend and thrust of convergence in the media, and the consequent demands for multiple skills made on the contemporary journalist.

St. Xavier Institute of Communications (XIC) based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, offers a variety of services in training and production. XIC was initiated in 1969 by The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India to develop scholarship and professionalism in the field of media. It is currently managed by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) of the Bombay Province.

The Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media (IIJNM) based in Bangalore, Karnataka, is a leading post-graduate school of journalism and media. The curriculum combines both theory and practice to prepare its graduates for positions in the media industry. The centre started in January 2001.

Times School of Journalism, based in New Delhi, offers Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism including six weeks internship with the Times of India and The Economic Times. The eligibility criteria is graduation in any discipline with 50% marks. However, a PG degree and a background in Economics, Management, Finance, Law or Science and Technology preferred.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) also offers courses in mass communication. It provides basic knowledge to students on Journalism and Mass Communication by sharpening the basic skills needed to function effectively in a media organization.

For those interested in acting and modeling, Film and Television Institute of India – Pune is a good option. It is an old and renowned institute and has produced well-known actors working in the film and television industry today.

There are various branches of mass communication. In journalism, the main purpose is to inform, educate and enlighten the masses on current issues and various other social issues that are relevant to them. These days, reporters, news casters, video journalists, cameramen are in great demand. Advertising involves brand-building through effective and innovative communication. The market for advertising is also very competitive

Then, film-making is another interesting option. It involves study of skills used in acting, directing, producing, script writing, cinematography, sound recording, visual mixing and editing etc. These days, lots of youngsters are taking to film-making and are interested in assignments behind the camera as well. It requires a lot of creativity and thinking in a broader perspective. Next comes publishing & printing. A course in publishing involves study of scientific methods used in this industry. It also requires editorial understanding.
Public Relations as a stream is also part of mass communication. PR executives are also in demand as they are responsible for building the public image of an organization.

A report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci), says that India’s print and broadcast industries are expected to grow at a compounded annual rate of 14% and 22%, respectively, until 2012. While print is estimated to become a Rs.28,100 crore industry by 2012, television will be a Rs.60,000 crore sector. Thus, there is no dearth of opportunities in all these fields but youngsters have to understand that it is not just glamour but also a lot of hard work that goes in these professions.

Acting for Endangered Species: The Statutory Ark (Development of Western Resources) When Congress passed the Endangered Species Act in 1973, it did so in the belief that threats to emblematic creatures like bison or commercial crops such as fish could be resolved simply by placing limits on hunting and trade. Few lawmakers could have foreseen how the implementation of that law would change over the years, as the directive to save seemingly insignificant species would extend to the protection of entire ecosystems. As the courts have interpreted the law in the light of a better understanding of science, the ESA increasingly has become a tool used to block development projects and restrict private land use.

Shannon Petersen has written a political and legal history of the Endangered Species Act that explains how and why this piece of legislation has become so controversial: a law hailed by many as one of the most intelligent ever written, reviled by as many as an ill-conceived impediment to progress. Others have recorded the ESA's relationship to the emergence of modern environmentalism; Petersen now addresses the legal history of the Act, showing how the courts created a far more powerful law than Congress originally envisioned and profoundly influenced environmental policy during the last decades of the twentieth century.

Acting for Endangered Species demonstrates that litigation and judicial decision-making have played a far more important role in shaping the modern environmental movement than has been previously thought. It focuses on two major controversies that developed over the implementation of the Act: a Supreme Court--ordered delay in dam construction when a fish called the snail darter was declared endangered and a threat to logging in the Northwest in the interest of saving the spotted owl. In reviewing these seminal cases, Petersen demonstrates the complex interplay among government, science, environmentalism, and natural resource industries in shaping endangered species policy in America.

The ESA is now over a quarter-century old and remains the broadest and most powerful law in the world for the protection of species; yet, as Petersen observes, it remains unclear whether the law has been successful. Acting for Endangered Species is a story of strategic lawsuits, broad judicial interpretations, and administrative retrenchment that have left the ESA itself on the brink of extinction, and it demonstrates the extent of environmental policy dilemmas in America today.
